Jay Frye, CEO of Ginn Racing, said Regan Smith, who is currently splitting the #01 with Martin, would drive either the #13 or #14 on a full-time basis next season. Sterling Marlin is interested in a part-time schedule for next season, but his contract expires at the end of this year, as does Joe Nemechek’s.
Frye said it’s possible both drivers could return, though a fourth car would be needed for that to happen. Eventually, those drivers would step aside for someone who took the same path as Smith.
“Hopefully - two or three years from now - we have three or four 20-something younger guys in the cars,” Frye said. He added that Ginn will seek another young driver to replace Smith as Martin’s co-pilot next season to help further that plan. Free agent Kyle Busch does not appear to be a likely candidate to drive for Ginn.
- Ginn to build test track in South Carolina
- Carmichael likely to stay with DEI
- Waltrip to announce 2008 plans
- More ‘Jr to Ginn’ info, Martin may return full time in 2008
- Ginn to make serious run at Dale Jr

So they lose Dumb and Dumber. Is that bad? Count your blessings Jay. I know they want young guns to develop. Don’t like Kyle Busch? Why not pursue a guy like Paul Menard who’s daddy brings money into the deal? Reutimann is better than his rookie stats show. Yeley will probably be available. Leffler. There will be guys available after the season.
you are forgetting one thing george……Leffler has been in cup 2 times before and sucked both times……some drivers are meant to stay in Busch.
