Gibson to be #01 crew chief in 2008
Quote selected text Published September 9th, 2007 in NASCAR News
Tony Gibson, who substituted as the crew chief for #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. earlier this year and was crew chief for Michael Waltrip at the end of the 2005 season at Dale Earnhardt Inc., will be the crew chief for Regan Smith next year. Gibson replaced Tony Eury Jr., who is heading to Hendrick Motorsports with Earnhardt Jr.
DEI Vice President John Story expects the current #8 team to become the #01 team next year with Smith while the current #01 crew moves to the #8 along with drivers Mark Martin and Aric Almirola. All of the other crew chiefs remain the same for their drivers - Kevin Manion with #1-Martin Truex Jr., Dave Charpentier with #15-Paul Menard and Ryan Pemberton with the #8-Martin/Almirola team.
- Eury, Jr steps down as Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s crew chief to start Hendrick job
- Gibson named WD-40 NHRA Sport Compact Chief of the Race at Palm Beach
- Penske names VP of Marketing
- New crew chief named for the No 77, Sam Hornish
- Dale Jr’s car keeps him frustrated at Texas

Gibson must be related to Regan Smith….interesting.
The Gibson guys have been heavily involved with ARCA for years. Their record isn’t that impressive either. Tony supposedly did a good enough job according to Junior, but we see Gibson isn’t going with him to HMS. Maybe he wasn’t so good after all? But Junior likes crew chiefs named Tony and DEI is in Junior’s mirror as he drives into the future.
It will be interesting to see if he can actually set up a car like Mark Martin is used to.
Sorry Regan Smith
can not wait too see regan smith race next year this kid got some talent just had bad luck when he drove the 01 this year. hope he can do it he was teached bye the best
