Joe GibbsSI.com reports that Toyota is pursuing Joe Gibbs Racing hard and that Gibbs is indeed interested.

Officially, the Gibbs team denies any contact with Toyota:

“It’s news to us,” team spokesman Mike Arning said.

Toyota, as a matter of policy, does not comment on contract negotiations. The potential deal is a delicate subject for Gibbs and Toyota. Gibbs’ contract with Chevrolet, which runs out at the end of the year, stipulates this is a non-negotiating period with other manufacturers. Is contact to determine interest negotiating? You’d have to read the fine print and then get a clarification from an arbitrator to determine that. But sources say there definitely has been communication between Toyota and Gibbs.

Oh my god if they move to Toyota I’m gonna be soo pissed..

  2. 2 Nascarfan4life24

Gibbs is stupid, but I didn’t think he was that stupid!!! Why would he go to Toyota. He has the best manufacturer in Nascar. But then again the idiot thinks he can turn the Deadskins in a winning team. Good luck Joe!!!

  3. 3 Justin

This reminds me of something that Robin Miller said last year on “WindTunnel”. He said Toyota would get their foot in the door with a few mediocre teams and would struggle for the first year and about the time they seemed to be accomplishing a little bit of success that they would try to buy into Penske , Gibbs or DEI. Lets wait and see if this comes true.

  4. 4 aracerdude

Toyota is not going to struggle forever, Nascar wants them to succeed and Nascar is good at making the field even. They will be competitive by next year and they have some serious money to do it with.

  5. 5 Jordan

I dont think Smoke will like that too much

Well Tony doesn’t run Gibbs racing. Joe does. It doesn’t matter what Tony thinks. He is the driver in the team not the owner of the team.

  7. 7 Aaron

Im a huge Gibbs fan…If they start driving Toyotas, I will be VERY BUMMED! I see no reason why they would gain anything from Toyota, except money, which Im sure none of them are hurting for!

  8. 8 Breanna Crooker

Doesn’t Tony have an overall contract of sorts with Chevrolet? I mean
even down to the sprint cars he owns in the World of Outlaws series
and everything. I could be wrong, I don’t know that for a fact. But
if he does, it DOES matter what Tony says. Unless they’re incredibly
stupid they wouldn’t let him go. And you can’t say that’d be a smart
move cuz I don’t care what you think of him, he’s a 2time champ, he
wins, and his merchandise sales are crazy.

  9. 9 Eric

I hope they dont go to Toyota. That would be about as stupid as they could possibly pull off. Why throw away promising results they have with Stewart and Hamlin to start over with Toyota?

  10. 10 Andy

Wow. That’s a big suprise. I wonder whatTony thinks.. There not struggling at all. Like they say, If it aint broke dont fix it!

  11. 11 Chris

Wow.. why would Gibbs get rid of all the chevys and go to toyota which isnt a proven winner in the Nextel cup series.

If he changes im going to be very upset, and im not even a Gibbs or Chevy fan.

“Well Tony doesn’t run Gibbs racing. Joe does. It doesn’t matter what Tony thinks. He is the driver in the team not the owner of the team.”

UHHH Ben, when you’re a 2 time champion, a consistent top 10 finisher, and bring in millions of dollars in endorsement and merchandising sales it does…

Nascar isnt just a sport Ben, its a business…look what’s happened to DEI because they wouldnt give their main attraction what he wanted…he jumped ship and now they stand to lose millions of dollars a year…you honestly dont think Tony wouldn’t do the same? Tony was over the moon to get out of a Pontiac and into a Chevy…

I dont think Denny would be quite too happy either…Hell, Junior, Tony, and Denny should all start a team together as they are all close friends anyway, but we’ll save that convo for another time

My response to Toyota going to the Gibbs camp…Where is the loyalty to our manufactures????? scratch Home Depot Off for me…… like I have Napa auto parts … I hope Joe Gibbs is not really thinking about this…… this is Unamerican ……

  14. 14 jonathan

quit getting so mad it’s just a rumor, gibb’s ins’t going to stick
with chevy. no way you can leave the best, to join the worst

  15. 15 JPetschauer

as tom hollander’s character from the pirates of the caribbean films said.
loyalty is no longer the currency of the realm.currency is now the currency of the realm.
and that is becoming true in NA$CAR.but jr. still says that their is still
    loyalty in his realm

  16. 16 judson

look, i am a HUGE tony stewart fan and a joe gibbs racing fan. i love watchin the 20,11, and 18 run up front every race. in fact it makes the race worth watching for me. i could care less if they get the same results with an impala or a camry. racing is racing. go smoke!

  17. 17 cheater

jud you must drive a yogo

  18. 18 Breanna Crooker

Stop saying it’s un-American for god’s sake. Ford and Chevy have
factories overseas, and Toyota has factories here. It’s just where
they were originally based that gives people that impression, and
they’ve all branched into other countries of the world now. Both help
our economy and both help other country’s economies. Jesus. I’m a
traditionalist on that kind of thing usually, but there’s nothing
    tradition-wise to be debated here.

  19. 19 Jordan

    Go Breanna!

Doesnt Honda have factories here also??? Mitsubishi also???

  20. 20 Justin

Breanna is right about the american - Un-American issue. They build “foreign” cars in Alabama , South Carolina , Tennessee , Indiana , Ohio , California , etc. But they are assembled by American workers while the Fords and Chevys that are built in Mexico and Canada are built by foreigners , so get a brain and realize that arguement all wrong. So Breanna is correct. But about youre comment about Tony Stewart only racing Chevys , I have pics of a 2005 Tony Stewart Sprint car that is Ford powered and has Ford sponsership , so smoke has run non-chevy cars before.

Who didn’t see this coming? Toyota tried to come into the sport with a new team mwr and it has failed. They are not going to pack up and leave so everyone should just except the fact they are going to be here for a while. Gibbs see an opertunity to get in with a BILLION dolar company. I say go for it. and as far as Tony goes, has anyone seen the dirt cars he owns? The are Mopar powered…..

  23. 23 gigolo george

For a team owner that prides himself on truth and God, his group sounds pretty deceiving. Joe would field Yugos if they paid him enough to do it. But he thinks Budweiser is bad/the devil. It would be a great catch for Toyota if they snagged a Gibbs or a Penske. Joe’s group claims it hasn’t had contact of any kind with Toyota. As the great Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein radio show asks weekly of celebrities, coaches, agents and athletes: Who ya crappin’?

  24. 24 Jayson

I wouldn’t move to Toyota like that unless it was next year (Like Gibbs could do)or another year, they get their
shit together and with all that factory money they will be a force to compete with the chevy dominance but not
yet, it still is going to take a couple more years.

  25. 25 Jordan

Justin, smokewon his first championship in a pontiac but he was as he said it “over the moon” when he switched to chevy’s…there’s just something about their engines that all the drivers like

its all about money…Toyota are going to try for every damn team, instead of focus on the task at hand and build a quality engine they are just trying to go for the best driver and hope skill overpowers engine ability….Toyota are acting like its not their fault when its obvious the engine isnt nextel ready yet…its busch ready but not nextel ready

  26. 26 billy

It makes great sense for Gibbs to go to Toyota, right now they are the second or third best team with Chevy’s after Hendrick and maybe Childress. If they sign with Toyota, they will be the top Toyota team and get the best of Toyota’s resources first before the other teams do. Toyota is struggling now, but they have only been in Cup for a handful of races. Dodge struggled the same when they came in. By next year, Toyota will be on par with the rest of the manufacturer’s.

  27. 27 Nash

hey jordan. just givin ya a heads up. a pontiac IS a chevy (of sorts). its a gm car. and in terms of racing, same power plant.
    it’s still a bow-tie

  28. 28 Aaron

Yea…and Pontiac PULLED OUT! It was not any of the teams decision. If any of you are watching the Fox braodcast, you have just heard them discuss the fact that Jr. might very well be signing with Gibbs! All I can say is FUCK YEA! Whether or not Toyota is involved…Smoke, Hamlin, Yelley and “HOPEFULLY” Jr… will make a damn good team!

  29. 29 Nascarfan4life24

Pontiac didn’t pull out. GM pulled the Pontiac out. They didn’t need both manufactures competing. Thats like ford competing with Mercury. They are the same cars.

  30. 30 Aaron

Well yea…thats what I was saying. The teams had nothing to do with it. They could have raced them still, but with out support from the manufacturer.

  31. 31 Matt

I think this rumor is nothing but a rumor and there’s no truth to it. Stewart has an individual contract with Chevy and there’s no way Chevy will allow him to drive a Toyota. He’ll be a free agent if Gibbs switches, which I think won’t happen.

  32. 32 WW
