Joe Gibbs Racing’s first choice is to re-sign with General Motors, not jump ship for Toyota. “We want to work this out [with GM],” team president J.D. Gibbs said before Sunday’s race at New Hampshire.
“I can’t say a whole lot more than that. We’ve got a great relationship with GM. We’ve been partners with them for 16 years, ever since we became an organization.” Gibbs said he’s had several meetings with GM officials, the most recent last week. He brushed off a report that the organization had a “done deal” with Toyota. Gibbs reminded that none of the Chevy teams have re-upped with GM, but that he hopes the situation will become clearer soon so the organization can start preparing for 2008.

Smart move, Gibbs! Toyota sucks! Toyota isn’t going to succeed in the cup series! I just don’t understand why anyone would leave the most dominating Auto maker in Nascar for a loser like Toyota.
toyota doesnt suck. they just dont have any good teams. if a big team like hendrick or gibbs moved to toyota, they would have the resources to research and develop the cars to become just as competitive.

Back on subject… On one hand, I can see where Gibbs would want to go and be the premier team for Toyota instead of fighting with Hendrick, DEI, Childress, etc. On the other hand, why in their right mind would anyone leave Chevy if they were serious about being a contender? Plus Gibbs has a good history with Chevy and have won quite a few races and a few championships with them, so it seems like a no-brainer that they would stay, but I guess you never know what they’re thinking until after the make a move.

I could see Gibbs leaving for Toyota because of the challenge, but why leave chevy and start all over when hes doing just fine.
why does it matter if they have no name? .. but i agree with LDadrenaline.. they don’t have any good teams to show they are competitive.
If Toyota sucks sooo bad why is 6 of the top ten in the truck series Toyota’s. You can’t expect any team to win every race in there first year. But look at Toyota now. Just give ‘em a few years in cup. They will come around and kill Ford, Chevy, and Dodge just like they do in auto sales.

Um sorry but the truck series isnt CUP!!!!! But toyota could win in cup if gibbs changed but I dont see that happening.
Ben.. Its because toyota used to have a intake manifold which gave them more power over chevy, dodge, and ford.
Now that things are more even it should change.

The Toyota’s just need some torque and a top outfit like Gibbs can give it to them.
Toyota just plain sucks and some people are willing to take up for them.
The reason why toyota’s are not doing good is because they are not built for speed they aare made for ags saving cars. oh and BEN H the only reason why toyota’s are winning in car sales isbecause people are lied to making them think that they are the best cars on the road and really they are not they are the wrost cars you can bye next to KIA’s,NISSAN.
