Frustrated Stewart falls short at Charlotte
Quote selected text Published May 26th, 2008 in NASCAR News
Tony Stewart appeared headed for victory in the closing laps of the Coca Cola 600 when with 3 laps to go he cut his right front tire ending his bid for his first 600 win.
A disappointed Stewart waved off interviews as he headed to his Joe Gibbs Racing hauler, and then he bolted out of the Sprint Cup garage area. An exasperated Greg Zipadelli, Stewart’s crew chief, wasn’t sure what happened to the tire.
“We got a flat – another tire that wouldn’t hold air,” Zipadelli said. “It’s hard to believe. We were so loose that entire run because we knew we needed to be there at the end. It’s just stupid. We must have run something over or had a small leak or something.
“I would say we lost a tire with a five-and-a-half second lead. I don’t even know what to say – I’m so frustrated. I feel bad for everybody at this Home Depot team. We kept digging and all day we did a good job. We knew we needed to keep our car where it was and it would be good at the end and we did exactly that, and it just fell short.”

Yep colonel . JGR has sabotaged tires, the moon Landing was staged and elvis is still alive
I felt real bad for Stewart losing a tire, but I was happy when Hamlin’s tire blew, he is Mr Jerk, like Kyle Busch.
I woder why Hamlin pulled off the track this time and not last time ???????????????????????? Why Hamlin did you pull off the track this race when you had a flat tire and not last time you had a flat tire.
Mr Jerk BigTime
you know what…who cares about tony stewart having tire issues? i mean seriously…ALL the leaders had some sort of issue…get over it..Dale Jr had the race sewn up and no one was gonna catch him until he cut a tire down with a 4 sec lead and that lead wasnt b/c of pitstops…unlike smokes..Stewart will win, as will JR but give me a break…stop crying about stupid sabotage and all that…JGR is getting what they deserve….shouldnt be dominating a series that is suppsoed to be for upcomming drivers…and start worrying mroe about the cup side of things…cry some more about it…i laugh every week when something happens to JGR simply b/c other than smoke..their drivers have absolutely no class

You’re driver Junior is also running in the NWS at times so I suggest you think before you say bud. They did not deserve any of those cut tires, no one did. Nobody is crying over anything. I don’t see you having any class in your reply.
hey Anon…grow a pair and state your name…hide behing the internet
i know JR runs the NWS…Denny/Kyle are out there EVERY WEEK…cup drivers should be not be allowed to run more than 10 races a season in that series…point blank….im not looking for class either…im tired of people feeling sorry for 1 driver wh had such and such failures….EVERYONE WHO LED HAD PROBLEMS..cept Kahne…thats it…do they have articles on here about their disappointment? NO…its racing…its going to happen more than once…so quit crying about
btw…i not 1 time in that article said i was a JR fan….good guess tho…regardless Busch, Vickers and Johnson ALL HAD PROBLEMS WHILE LEADING…douchebag..get YOUR facts straight b4 u start in on me…i watch every lap of every cup race…you wont pull one over my eyes
the reason JGR has no class is simply b/c of this…
Denny Hamlin has turned into Kyle Busch the 2nd….whine and cry about everytime someone runs into you…but its totally ok for you to do it…to me thats not Class….if you think otherwise then so be it…i couldnt care any less i speak the truth
Stewart had a flat with 2-3 laps to go which made it more frustrating for that team since Denny and Stewart both blew a tire with the last few remaining laps.
Darrel….you said all of the leaders had problems except kahne. kahne had problems too. on that last green flag pit stop they took entirely too long to fill that car up with gas and openly admitted it. why else would stewart end up with that big of a lead before his tire problem. just thought i would clear that up
This article is about Smoke loosing not Denny or Kyle, granted Smoke and Denny both had tire issues. Could it be they ran over that beer bottle someone threw at Kasey? (most likely aimed at Kyle). Let me tell you Kyle and Denny are bringing bad karma to Smoke. I agree Denny is turning into a bigger and older version of Kyle. My thoughts are this;Smoke can’t get out of JGR soon enough for me as long as he has to keep paying for the mistakes of the other two bullies and whiners. Denny should have to pay to fix Keselowski’s car. Come on Denny….he did lift your rear tires…what a big baby. I can’t believe how the karma has changed at JGR sure they are winning but what goes around comes around. Now I understand why Mr. Hendrick sent Kyle packing. He was an inflamed boil on the teams butt!
All I have to say Erin is Remember at one time Smoke was like Kyle and Denny are now, give them some time and they’ll settle down like Smoke has.
People including myself have compared Kyle to a Young Ralph and Darrell, but one thing that I think we all are forgetting is Kyle (and Denny) also have a lot of the qualities that Smoke had in his younger years in Cup.
One thing certain—-win or loose Smoke’s gonna blow. I believe he may be whinnier than Waltrip, but win or loose he cries—-why pay attention anymore?????
Yes Smoke had a hot head but I believe he learned quickly from a guy named Mark Martin how to give and get respect something I believe Kyle and Denny have not done enough. Denny should not upset a guy like Junior who has helped him break into big time racing.I like Denny but he needs to learn patience with these young drivers because he isn’t too far removed from them and the same goes for Kyle. Instead of acting like buttheads they should try and be the bigger men since they are CUP drivers.
Mare maybe Smoke cries because he knows how hard it is to win? I’ll put him up against any of them after all how many cars did he have to pass yesterday to lead the race? Yes Smoke is going to blow putting up with these two young men acting like children. Face it he is 37 years old and past the time in his life he wants to mess with children.
Smoke had a mentor in Bobby Labonte who taught him the right way and he says he has tried to be like Bobby was to him however Bobby is much closer to Smoke in age than these two.
Chin up Zippy and Smoke you will go on tear here for all your hard work will be rewarded.
