Fourteen fans barred from buying tickets at Talladega

Talladega Superspeedway has permanently banned 14 fans from buying tickets at the speedway following their arrests Sunday for throwing objects on the track after Jeff Gordon’s victory in the Aaron’s 499.
The fans were charged with disorderly conduct Sunday and posted bond at the track’s jail facilities, Talladega County Sheriff Jerry Studdard said. Track officials can’t prevent the 14 fans from buying tickets through a third party.
A number of fans began throwing beer cans after Gordon won the race under caution, passing the late Dale Earnhardt — a Talladega favorite — in career wins.
Talladega officials had issued warnings before the race that fans caught throwing objects over the fence separating the grandstands from the track would be arrested.
Superspeedway president Grant Lynch said identifying other fans who threw objects was harder than he had imagined.
“At a baseball game where everybody is sitting down, it’s easy to see someone stand up and throw an object onto the field,” Lynch said. “I was looking at a section that probably had 300 people in it, and they were all standing up, waving their arms and their caps, and I couldn’t pinpoint where any of the objects were coming from.”

hat makes me smile,, i hope they give out plastic cups and draft beer to from here on out with a no cooler rule!! besides the track would make more money on draft beer anyways!!
I Am Sooo Happy To Hear this!! I Hope By Doing This Not Only Will They Learn A Lesson But So Will Others From It As Well.. And To Think First!
I was so happy when I read this. It is about time that the tracks stood up for the drivers and put their foots down. Earnhardt was a great driver will always be remembered for his accomplishments, but we can’t forget that records will eventually be broken. Hopefully other fans will learn from this and not do this at other tracks.
The charge of disorderly conduct is not enough! What is wrong with the sheriff? If one of those cans of beer hit a windshield even at slower speeds it could do serious damage to the car and the driver. Think about it a can hitting a windshield of a car traveling about 70 mph it is going to go through the windshield. Teach these idiots a leson the DA should have a nice surprize for them when the go to court to answer the charges. A nice big felony charge of ATTEMPTED MURDER I bet that would make all the others that were doing this think before they do it again. And as for the sheriff saying that the track can not stop them from buying tickets from a third party while that may be true the track can ban them from the track for life! And they should! Hey takes a little more time to get people in the gates but it is not impossible to make sure those that were involved do not get back in to the track. BAN THEM FROM EVERY RACE IN EVERY STATE NASCAR protect your drivers and teams equipment. These losers do not have a place in the NASCAR family of fans.
I don’t fell most fans was so upset about Gordon passing the late Dale Earnhardt. But more for another BAD ending to a good race.
Come On NASCAR !!
Bad ending or good ending…if you don’t like the outcome…….stay home!!!
Racing does not need LOSER FANS crying everytime they do not get their way.
What a joke. They are barred from buying tickets at the speedway, well what about buying tickets from a scalper or having a friend/family member buy them a ticket? This wont solve anything.
Well, it has to start somewhere. I hope if these incidents continue, the
punishment will get stiffer.
As of today there is a new nascar rule stating the yellow flag can’t be waved until a Hendrick team driver is in the lead even if several other crashes happen afterwards. Those who don’t want to abide will be fined or fired. The new rule was adapted from similar big time wrestling rules. Still the folks calling the race can’t understand why the fans throw stuff on the track. Can they really be that naive?
I am not for anyone throwing anything at any driver, but I’ll bet the reasonings behind it have much more to do with the unfairness in Nascar than anything!!!!
I totlly agree with Charly…
there is NO room in racing for this violence and
ATTEMPTED MURDER
IS A MUCH BETTER CHARGE
THAN DISORDERLY CONDUCT!
…and Susan, what does bodily injury or death to
a driver have to do with fairness of NASCAR officials??
IF your kids dont agree that your house rules are fair is it
waranted that they can attempt to kill your chauffer?
the freakin driver has NOTHNG to do with NASCAR being fair
when it comes to him being injured or killed! get a grip!!
Come on guys. You can hype this up as much as you want. Attempted murder? They were cruising around the track at 70. No beer bottle is going to inflict critical harm to man or machine at those speeds especially when it comes to a professional driver inside a race car with a sealed window on the right side. People in the stands could have got hit, but they would have a happy little lawsuit for the track. We’ve all seen them hit debris at 190 and know that it would take something far heavier and larger than beverage containers to kill them. Sure it was dumb of the people who did it but be realistic. They got their punishment. They were detained and barred from buying tickets directly form the track. Some of you need to get off of your mother goose pedestal and realize it was TALLADEGA. If something like this, on this scale, is going to happen, this would be the place. I definitely do not agree with the chunkers but I do understand. Hell, this happened when the Pepsi 400 looked like it was going to be finishing under caution two or three years ago and was arguably worse (atleast on the back stretch). Bout time someone figured out something to make people think twice about it, even if the consequences are minor.
Like Mr. Lynch said… “At a baseball game where everybody is sitting down, it’s easy to see someone stand up and throw an object onto the field,” Lynch said. “I was looking at a section that probably had 300 people in it, and they were all standing up, waving their arms and their caps…”
That just shows how passionate people can get about racing. Passion leads to doing stupid things in the heat of the moment. Just ask the driver of the 20 car. Bottom line: Not being able to buy tickets from the track is punishment enough.
i have to agree with Mike on this one. Yes, this wont stop them from buying tickets through somebody else, but at least this is a start.
as for jeff gordon winning under a caution. many drivers have muliti wins under a yellow. i recall Jeff Burton winning so many races due to rain that it became a joke that mother nature was a jeff burton fan.
Jeff gordon ran well throughout the race and won. yes, its not a race to the finish, but, he was up front and running strong when the caution came out and still was there again when it came out for the second time.
and anyway, people just like to stir up controversary. if Dale jr. would have won it would have been that NASCAR fixed the race so he would win on his dads birthday. remember the backlash at the Pepsi 400 after his father had passed away? does anybody else remember hearing how nascar had fixed it so that he would win at the track his father had died only a few months later? i didnt believe it then and i still dont believe it now.
no matter who wins, there is a way to say it was fixed. Tony Stewart wins? oh, thats so he can take the time in victory lane to tell everybody how hard he worked at winning the race and how nascar couldnt have possibly thrown it.
seriously, lets stop trying to turn NASCAR into a soap opera and enjoy the sport!!!
So, how are the fans going to like it when Nascar decides to separate the drivers and teams from the fans altogether? Maybe take away the ability to go in the garage and pits, or put the stands so far back, that they can’t throw things on the track. It’s so rediculous that a few stupid, disrespectful so-called fans could ruin the experience for everyone in the future.
Obviously we’re looking at a different race…You can plainly see smoke begin to pour from the 07, and I’ll be damn, Gordon is in first..it’s clear. QUIT the damn whining! If something is illegal, it’s ILLEGAL…throwing anything on a track, a baseball diamond, or a football field is ILLEGAL. It is even written on the tickets! Just because your “passions” are out of control (or you’re just plain stupid!) doesn’t make it any less illegal!
And if Gordon fans were throwing stuff at Junior, we wouldn’t be having this outrage.
Simple FACT:
Gordon - 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Junior - NONE
FACT 2
Gordon 77 wins
Junior 17
I have nothing but respect for Junior and Dale, Sr…but they’re fans are nothing but crybaby losers….sorry had to be said.
Get a grip!
True Nascar Fans would never throw stuff or steal from other fan’s . But this happens all the time. Like at a Michigan race our bikes were stolen from our camp site these are not real fan’s and they should be banned forever.
WELL BOB SCREW U BOBBY BOY I SO HAPPEN TO BE A JUNIOR FAN AND I WOULD NEVER THROW SOMETHING ON THE TRACK SO DONT BLAME JUNIORS FANS
FACT JEFF HAS BEEN RACING A LONG TIME
DALE ONLY A FEW YEARS
BUT LIKE IT OR NOT NASCAR WITH OUT DALE JR WOULD SUCK CAUSE IF DEI COULD BUILD A RACE CAR JEFF WOULD BE IN FOR A BIG SUPRISE
THE PEOPLE WHO THROUGH CANS ARE STUPID AND SHOULD GO TO JAIL
SOUNDS LIKE YOUR THE CRYBABY
susan,
i’m sorry for my remarks about unfair rules at home…
i guess i didnt see the rest of what youd written. my apologies!
mare
I THINK THAT SHOULD BAN THEM FROM EVERY RACE FROM NOW ON AND FINE THEM LOTS OF MONEY LIKE THEY DO OUR RACERS. DO YOU AGREE WRITE AND LET ME KNOW?
so yeah im happy wit this and to loco lets evaluate jeff gordon had 3 championships in is first 7 years this is jrs 8th season last time i checked he hasnt even come close
