MISIn August 2005, the stands were packed and the infield full at Michigan International Speedway, marking the track’s 30th consecutive sellout.

Since then, attendance has dipped slightly, but in a crowd of more than 130,000 it can be hard to notice.

What’s easier to visualize are the 91,000 fewer workers in Michigan since that August race — enough to almost fill the red and yellow grandstands.

As Michigan’s economic downturn and mounting job losses worsen, more residents are choosing to stay home on race day.

And it’s why MIS President Roger Curtis said he believes there won’t be a sellout for Sunday’s LifeLock 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, and ticket sales will be “a fair amount lower” than last year’s June race.

You can also blame the late ass Start time.
More would go if the Green Flag would wave at 12:30pmet like it did in the glory days.

Your there all bloody day now with the 2:20pmet green flag. Race now goes green almost 2 full hours before it SHOULD!!

Nascar doesn’t care about the fans AT The Track.
they ONLY Care of the fans at home watching it on TV.
Nascar proves they DON’T care about the fans AT the races since they all go green way to late now.

Start the race no later then 12:30pmet like it SHOULD be and attendance will go up.
There are many fans (like me) who go there who don’t live in Michigan that has hit hard times.

More would go if Nascar would grow a brain and start the races around Noon like they should be for ET tracks, that are day races.

Start it around Noon or put up lights and go green at 6 or 7. so people arn’t at the track all damn day like we are now with the after 2 starts.

THERE WAS RACING AT ONE TIME AT MIS,NOW IT IS LIKE ALL THE OTHER NAPCAR TRACKS WITH THE FOLLOW THE LEADER PROGRAM.THEY ARE ON PROBATION WITH ME,AFTER I SPEND A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FOR GAS TO GET THERE IN MY MOTORHOME,THERE HAD BETTER BE SOME RACING OR THERE WILL BE ANOTHER EMPTY SEAT NEXT YEAR.

I don’t think the start time has much to do with it, some to do with it yes!!!

But these damn gas prices have to go, The USA needs to quit dealing with those diaper heads overseas and start pumping and making our own gasoline/diesel and things will perk up again, also put back in the pit road seats that would be a plus!!!☺☺☺

You pay $100 for the seat space, $50 for a pit pass and what do you get? If i could just get an autograph it would be worth it.The best race is on TV so what do i get out of coming to the track? They need to look at what got them all that money. I like what Richard Petty does when he gives his autograph. Makes it ledgibleso it is memorable. Ask him what it used to be like. I still must go to work on monday

Well, I enjoy tailgating before the race, so I can’t complain too much about the race time, but I will agree with the gas prices. I think that has A LOT to do with it!

I also have to agree with “sheepdog” about the pit passes. I bought a pit pass, and all I saw were tires! LOL (I have to laugh because there’s no point in crying about it)
I was “suckered” into thinking I might get an autograph, a photo, or something unique, but all I got was a good look at some tires. Hardly worth $50 or even $100. (some cost $100)
I know they can’t guarantee that you’ll see someone on pit road, but you would think they could do something to make it worth the money, since we did pay a little extra for it.
Yep, just tool boxes and tires. People were getting their picture taken on Dale Jr’s tires because his tool box wasn’t even on pit road yet!
I managed to get mine taken with Tony Stewart’s tool box…LOL Don’t that sound stupid?
    I paid extra for that!
And I didn’t even get a jar of vaseline with my pit voucher, if you know what I mean!

I just don’t see myself doing that again!

The price of fuel, along with the price of tickets AND the price of camping has definatley turned me away. A five hour drive to get there, then I get soaked $100.00 for a ticket, another $150.00 for the campsite, I would rather camp for FREE at our local track (Cayuga Speedway) and watch the grass routes of Nascar racing. Good racing, cheap tickets ($20.00), cheap beer ($3.50) AND free camping that includes water AND hydro at your site. Ya can’t beat it.

i could not agree with everyone more. i think you won’t see another sell out the rest of the year.
