Evernham admits relationship hurt Erin Crocker’s career

“I don’t think it’s any secret that because of the personal relationship between Erin and I it hurt her career,” Evernham said on Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “The proper thing to do and something her and I would like to do is move her to another race team.
“I think the girl has a lot of talent. But if I sit here and say to somebody, ‘Look, she’s got a lot of talent, you should sponsor her,’ my credibility is not good because of the personal relationship,” he said.
Evernham, who turns 50 in August, began dating the 26-year-old Crocker last season.
The relationship became a point of contention with driver Jeremy Mayfield, who after being released from Evernham Motorsports alleged in a 2006 lawsuit that his boss was an absentee manager largely because of his “close personal relationship with a female driver he engages to drive on NASCAR’s ARCA, Truck and Busch Series.”
“That relationship became a subject of considerable discussion and distraction in the Nextel Cup garage area during the 2006 season,” the court document said.
Evernham, who still has a relationship with Crocker, admitted the outside distractions were a factor in performance and his ability to build a quality team.

NEWS FLASH - Banging the boss rarely works out well in the end! Is there anyone that thought this was a good idea (aside from the two of them)?
Oh well, he can date who he wants. I think Erin’s a good driver, but
I think she might be like Steve Kinser-Talent on the dirt but trying
to do the asphalt thing is a waste of time.
I have much respect for Ray evenrham, but this relationship is just stupid.
Way to help a person’s career out there Ray.

So basically Jeremy was correct.
Ray.. if your going to have a relationship with a woman driver, go for Danica Patrick.
I hope Evernham gets the cars going again now that he’s single and can concentrate on the racing.
Save the relationship for the off-season.

Hey, who can blame him. Look @ her!
wow just wow
Yeah I felt bad for Jeremy Mayfield.
Guess he was right.
But damn 50 & 26??
I never realized how big the age difference was.
Anonymous has a point; to me she’s prettier than Danica Patrick cuz
she doesn’t have to get her hair and nails done and lather herself
in makeup to look good. And who cares about age difference? If they
really care about each other that means nothing.
Hmm, I’ve always wondered about that, I never knew they actually had a real relationship.
Ray has gotta do what he needs and let her off the team.
I know I meant nothing by it with them being 50 & 26.
I was just shocked it was that big of a gap, I never
knew they’re actual ages.
As long as everyone involved is happy more power to them but seriously it would be better if she drove for a differant team.
Would like to see Erin go to a RCR or HMS to drive a few races. They both have good teams where she could learn a lot.
Kinser talent RCR HENDRICKS are you guys kidding. She[CROCKER] is a good ARCA driver and thats only becuase of the equipment and money backing her . Dont get me wrong I want to see a woman driver due well in the top levels of nascar but I dont think shes it
Uh hey buddy, I never said she had as much talent as Steve Kinser,
to me no one does. What I said was I think they’re both the same in
that they can do well on dirt but are hopeless on asphalt.
Just goes to show that work and dating are not always the best way to go.
It didn’t help Ray’s marriage either. And he made Jeremy the bad guy!
Steve Kinser won a IROC race on asphalt, beating Nascar’s best at their own game.
Yes, once, but I’m talking about making a career out of it. He’s the
master of dirt but it just seemingly doesn’t transfer to asphalt. Regardless,
Erin was the first woman ever to directly qualify for the A-Main of
the Knoxville Nationals so obviously she can drive on dirt, but I
wish she would of stayed there and developed her WoO career. If she
wanted to get a non-sprint car she could of jumped into their late
models division.
She’s a frickin hottie!!! Danika is hott too. They both need to come over to Nascar!
I hope the fellow Wilbrahamite will go back to Sprints for all her fans
to see race again. My quote was: Erin Rocked & Betty Crocked!
She needs more choices that don’t include her boy friend unless
she wants to arm chair race for TV. Her engineering slills learned
likely make for a good match for driver safety or other technical
skill use.

i worked at evernham motorsports and everyone there knew what was going on with them long before his wife did! i dont care about the age difference, i just find is disturbing that she gave him a fathers day card saying how is was like a father to her and then she was sleeping with him. creepy!
