Eury, Sr out at DEI, Gilmore out as Director-UPDATED

UPDATE: Interviewed on Sirius Speedway, John Story confirmed that Dave Charpentier will serve as interim crew chief for Menard and Tony Eury, Sr. will move to a Research and Development position within DEI. Story added, “Richie Gilmore’s role remains unchanged. He has gotten himself very involved in working with RCR to establish Earnhardt Childress Technologies company, and we needed someone from our side to head it up. Richie will eventually be spending the vast majority of his time on that.”
Sirius Speedway’s Dave Moody reports that Tony Eury, Sr. is out as #15-Paul Menard’s crew chief, effective immediately.
Dave Charpentier will become the team’s new crew chief. In addition, Moody says that reports state Richie Gilmore is out as Director of Motorosports with DEI and will become Director of Research and Development with the team.

How many people only read the headline? Eury Sr is going to be doing R&D not leaving DEI. With his experience you have to view that as a great call.
Um, that’s because the story has been updated since we commented last.
Remember that Tony is related to Junior. That’s a dig at him (Junior). It’s not Tony’s fault Menard doesn’t have the skills to be in Cup. He needed another year or so in Busch. They rushed him and this is what they got. It shouldn’t surprise anyone. Charpentier is a whore. He’s been with any team, including the old Remington #75 car as a crew chief, for the money. He was a brilliant engineer years ago. He’s worked for some of the best owners around. Maybe after being a cash whore for so long, he deserves to work for the Black Widow. Gilmore has long been involved with motors anyway. I wish Tony well.

Just because Eury got reassigned within DEI doesn’t mean he’s happy. R&D can mean a lot of things. He could be researching how many times it’s necessary for a driver to take a piss in their car during a year for all we know. That’s happened a couple of times already this year where a crew chief has been pulled, reassigned, and then ultimately left the team. We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes or exactly how they are told they are reassigned. If Jr goes to Hendrick or Gibbs the Eury’s will play Teresa’s game for a paycheck. But if he signs with Ginn they won’t let the door hit them on the way out as Bobby will let Jr bring them with him.
I hope the DEI r & d program is better than the one Hendrick’s had in place. The #25 car WAS the r & d car for years. Prior to that, they usually gave Greg Sacks a motor and turned him loose. He won his only Cup race by doing this in the 1980’s when Geoff “don’t call me Jethro” Bodine was the Hendrick star. Menard was basically the r & d car for DEI anyway. If he’s missing shows, their stuff isn’t working. But that would put Tony basically in the same spot he was in without having to make excuses for Menard.
