Eury, Jr to leave DEI for Hendrick after Talladega

Tony Eury Jr. will leave Dale Earnhardt Inc. for Hendrick Motorsports earlier than expected, team officials confirmed on Thursday.
Eury, who has been Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s car or crew chief for all but one season since the two broke into the Nextel Cup Series in 2000, will step down after the Oct. 7 race at Talladega Superspeedway.
He will be allowed to take four members of Earnhardt’s No. 8 team with him under a deal made by DEI when it agreed to free him contractually to join Earnhardt at HMS in 2008.
DEI vice president John Story said he met with Eury’s crew this week and only one person has mentioned leaving thus far.
Eury and Earnhardt could work together for HMS as early as the Car of Tomorrow test at Atlanta Motor Speedway following the Oct. 28 race in Georgia.
- Eury, Jr steps down as Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s crew chief to start Hendrick job
- Eury, Jr likely to join Earnhardt, Jr at Hendrick
- Eury, Jr will be Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s crew chief at Hendrick
- Tony Eury, Sr leaves DEI for JR Motorsports
- Tony Eury, Sr ‘amazed’ at Hendrick race shop

They should both leave now, by the end of the year JR could have a win.

I wish they could, that way they would have a huge head start on next year, but HMS doesn’t have a car for him unless they would do a lease deal and run it as part of JR. motorsports. But I’m sure all of jr’s present sponsers would not want that to happen inless they could be on his cat and I’m sure TEI wont let that happen (I cant blame them) inless they paid off there sponser contracts in full.
Eury will be leaving JR high and dry for the rest of the season. That ios kinda dirty.
Way to throw in the towel on this season! I guess all the talk about commitment to getting the #8 in victory lane and focusing on finishing strong, etc, was all a load of BS. Then again the only thing Tony Jr did this year was cost Dale 100pts and a possible spot in the chase, so maybe it’s for the better!
WOW, i did not see that comming!
Guys, don’t look at it as a “he’s ditching them” kinda thing.
It’s a smart move, he has a head start at Hendrick and will
be that much more prepared for the 08 season. Junior missed the
chase, he doesnt NEED his primary crew chief.
I say it’s a great move!

That is a good point. Still surprised though.

I believe DEI wanted this as much as anyone from what I’m told.

Why…are they afraid that he would take information with him?

To be honest with you that is exactly my understanding.
What in the world could they steal from a poorly run team with a below average engine shop???
Well, I doubt DEI would have better information than HMS.
WEll Jr. did say that Tony was on the plane with Henrick crew chief’s.
has anybody stop to think that tony and jr probably have sat down and talked about this?
have you stoped to think maybe they both want to go ahead and go?i think they are gonna hit dayton wide open like the “old”
jr we all remember.
I say it’s a great move. Let’s not all forget that Jr has run very well for the most part of the year. Too bad he had crappy equipment to get him the finishes he deserves and if he had the equipment to get those finishes, he’d be in the chase. So, why not? Go ahead and get a head start on next year, get used to the shop’s, eqipment, and everything at HMS. You know Jr’s gonna have the equipment next year, why not get a head start on it now. Just a thought.

Man I like it when you chime in. Give us some more inside info!
What happened to Anonymous?
Eury Jr is probably leaving early, for Hendrick,
as he’ll need the extra time. Hendrick’s present crew chiefs, also needs the extra time, to
teach Eury Jr to be a real “Crew Chief.”
This had to be expected but for some fans it may be a bitter pill to swollow.
well what will all the jr fans do when he can’t win at hms either
u guys are all nailing it on the head….. i mean for 1 its an advantage
to have a member of the 8 team go to hms and then tell jr this is whats
working. and also to get the 8 car set up to run with the hms cars. that
right there is a smart choice on both jrs behalf (tony and jr). and maybe
jr will get a win by doing this.

We will live with it. But with 17 wins we think he will return to his old self.
This is good for both companies. DEI will be able to move in their 2008 #8 crew chief while Dale is still there, getting him used to the position so he can be ready for 2008 to be Mark Martin’s crew chief, and Tony will be able to get his 4 guys into HMS and get a 9 week early headstart for the Daytona 500.
Jr. made the remark that his car might be used for test setups the last 5 or so races, so it makes sense that he could take info from DEI to HMS.
To bad because I think Tony is part of the problem not the solution to Jr’s poor results this year.
Next year will be telling in many ways for JR.
If he has another bad year will he or HMS move Tony Jr out of the crew chief roll ??
Dale Jr says he wants to prove himself and win a championship. Can he do that with a mediocre crew chief that’s family ??
Having the type of relationship that these 2 do means a lot towards trust and commutations between driver and crew chief, BUT what happens when the crew chief is just not that adapt at changing to the new COT car ?? Can he learn or will he forever be a 2ond rate crew chief ??
Will this continued relationship be a asset or a determent to Jr’s future… To be determined.
good for tony jr! get you four guys over there and get to work! if they get this big of a head start they should run well next year, thats what wee all want to see. so tony do your home work and lets wip some ass next year!!
From listening to Jr’s scanner I think Tony Jr has his act together. I would hate to try and adjust on a car for JR. Maybe they have some sort of cryptic code that only they understand, but to me it sounds like a whole lot of JR bit&*$%g and trying to tell Tony Jr how to change the car. I think he needs someone like Jr Johnson for a short time…It’s adjusted, you’ve got what you’ve got, now quit layin down on me boy.

almost every driver out there complains about there car when it isn’t handeling good, the biggest problem I see between Dale JR. and Tony JR. is some times Tony JR. makes changes on there car that Dale Jr. doesn’t expect with out telling Dale JR. till he has ran some laps. To me that is a problem, the crew chief should let the driver know what changes they made to the car so the driver knows what to expect from the cars handeling.
