Last weekend’s Nextel Cup race at Pocono broadcast on ESPN received a 4.5 national rating, down 12 percent from last season’s event, according to Nielsen Media Research. Last year’s race received a 5.1 on TNT.
The Pocono race was the most watched sporting event of the weekend, edging out coverage on CBS of the PGA Bridgestone Invitational (3.3 rating).
The inaugural Busch Series event at Montreal, broadcast on ESPN2, received a 1.4 national rating, the same as the Busch at Indianapolis the week before.
- NASCAR ratings dip on ESPN
- Edwards a Michigan machine
- Sprint Cup Top 12 and beyond heading into Pocono
- NASCAR Chase TV ratings down from last year
- Sonoma race last weekend’s highest-rated sporting event on television

hmm, maybe cause ESPN isn’t a national channel. Maybe if the show it on ABC the ratings might go up.
Is anyone but NASCAR surprised?
