Elliott to stay in #21 until team gets in top 35 in points

The Wood Brothers/JTG race team wishes to address the numerous inquiries about Ken Schrader’s continued participation with the #21 Nextel Cup entry. The plan in place now is the plan that has always been in place. Bill Elliott continues to drive the #21 car on a weekly basis with the emphasis on the guaranteed starting spot, while the team works to regain its standing in the top-35 in NASCAR Owner Points.
At such time that the team is able to reach this range of points, it is our continued intention that we will be able to return Ken Schrader to his driving duties with the team.
[Wood Bros]
- Elliott to stay in the #21 for near future, Wood to stay in CTS
- Wood Brothers, Bill Elliott sign Heinz to the No 21
- Elliott to drive No. 21 Wood Bros Ford during Speedweeks
- Sadler hopes to run halfway in Martinsville race
- Bill Elliott in line to drive at Michael Waltrip Racing?

What the…??? If Ken didn’t get you there, why are you leaving a spot for him?!
If I were Schrader, I wouldn’t even consider coming back. Obviously, he wasn’t getting the job done earlier, so that’s why they pulled him out and put Bill Elliott in. But to say that once they’re in the top 35, Kenny can have the spot back is ludicrous!!!
If Bill gets you there, keep him, and if they still want put another driver in, make it a driver that can build success for you in the future instead of giving the spot away to your undeserving grandson (Jon Wood) or being nostalgic (Bill Elliott or Ken Schrader) and trying to keep the old fan base.
Amen Joe
So much for developing one of your own (Jon Wood).
AMEN, Joe !!! If I were Schrader they could keep their ride.
I don’t think Schrader gives a hoot, one way or the other !!!
Hmm, once that car gets into the top 35 and he leaves.. it will go back out of the top 35.
That’s a little harsh guys, I think the main point they’re making is that Elliot is guarenteeing them a spot in the race. The team is having troubles in qualifying, not that Schrader is underperforming. I’m not exactly saying Ken’s gonna do great, but he never really had the chance. I say it’s a good move.
Andy,
It is a good move on the teams part, but i hope they don’t run out of championship provisional while trying to make the race.
What will happen if they still fail to make the top 35 after Elliot leaves?
I think that qualifying should be for the fastest cars and have the top 12 in the point standings guaranteed for the race even if they mess up in qualifying.
