Carl EdwardsCarl Edwards passed Jason Leffler with 48 laps remaining Saturday night and cruised to victory at the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 on Saturday night.

It was Edwards’ second win at Gateway International Raceway in three years and it came in front of a nearly hometown crowd. Edwards grew up in Columbia, Mo., about a 2-hour drive from the track.

Joey Logan, the 18-year-old racer in just his fifth race, finished second after starting fourth. Jason Kelley took third, followed by Jason Leffler and London Cassill.

Edwards earned his second victory on the Nationwide circuit in 22 starts. He has nine Top 5 finishes and 11 in the Top 10. Edwards took advantage of the sixth caution of the 200-lap race. He got four tires and filled his tank, coming out of the pits third. He quickly overtook Leffler and James Buescher.

Congrats to the bike pedaling winner, the only driver I know that would pedal his bike 2 hours to a race and win it.
Also you could also see the Toyota HP again this weekend.

  2. 2 ROWDY BUSH

HERE WE GO ALREADY OFF TOPIC ABOUT THE TOYOTA HP, WELL I GUESS EDWARDS HAD MORE MORE HORSEPOWER , SINCE CAR SETUP AND DRIVER INPUT ISNT IMPORTANT…. BACK TO THE RACE THOUGH GLAD SEE SOMEONE OTHER THEN THE 20 WIN AND WAS GLAD TO STREMME WITH ANOTHER TOP 10

  3. 3 Fisha695 Registered User

Also glad to see Stremme with a top 10, especially when there is a very high chance that team will not finish out the year (the 66 team may not either)

  4. 4 darrell Registered User

anyone think Landon Cassil let Brad by to get 5 extra points on bowyer there on the last lap? i wouldnt be suprised since they are team cars

This topic is not just about Carl its about the race and the finish and since the 2nd 20 car led for 42 laps, and the 99 car led for 33 laps and they were Toyotas, well that is on topic.
Its seems like you just like to start something on every forum, you should listen to everyone and go away.

Well, if Brad had been less than 170 points behind Clint you might think some team orders were called but someone would have heard it on the radio.

  7. 7 Sam

How about those Jr motorsports cars! Both in the top ten!

  8. 8 ROWDY BUSH

IM NOT STARTING ANYTHING IM JUST TIRED OF HEARING THE ONLY REASON TOYOTAS ARE DOING GOOD IS BECAUSE OG HORSEPOWER, I UNDERSTAND PEPOLE HATE TOYOTA THATS FINE BUT DONT TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM THE DRIVERS ALSO IM SURE IF WAS THAT MUCH OF AN ISSUE NASCAR WOULD HAVE STEPPED IN LONG TIME AGO, SO UNTIL THEY DO WHO ARE WE TO SPECULATE.

HOWIE LET ME ASK YOU THIS, THE SPECULATION IS THAT THE REASON THEY ARE WINNING SO MUCH IS BECAUSE OF THE HORSEPOWER DIFFERENCE, HOW COME ALL I EVER HEAR IS THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE NATIONWIDE AND CUP SIDE ADN NOT THE TRUCK SERIES WHEN TOYOTAS HAVE DOMINATED THAT SERIES FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS????

  9. 9 Howie Motorsports Photography Registered User

They have stepped in in the truck series, thats why they run tapped spacers on there motors too, and thats why Mike Skinner said just as of last night that with that acceration lose he has problems racing his truck. there was never a problem with this until Toyota got into the game. Now tapped spacers are getting smaller and smaller and its just like plate racing.

  10. 10 ROWDY BUSH

OK WELL LET ME ASK YOU THIS TEHN WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG FOR NASCAR TO STEP IN, WHY WOULD THEY LET THEM “CHEAT” FOR SO LONG

  11. 11 Howie Motorsports Photography Registered User

Im not getting into this again with you, Joe Balash said last night that they have did the dyno tests on the 10 motors from last week at Joliet and they have not determined what the new modifacations would be to level the playing field between the 4 makes. I quess your like everyone else who just has to wait.

  12. 12 ROWDY BUSH

DONT START BEING A CRY BABY I WAS JUST ASKING, I JUST HATE HEARING PEOPLE WHINE TOYOTAS HAVING MORE HORSEPOWER AND YOU YOURSEL EVEN SAYING THAT ANY CRAPPY DRIVER COULD DRIVE A CAR WITH HORSEPOWER AND WIN, WHICH DOEST EXPLAIN AFTER MILUAKE WHY THE DODGES DYNO TEST WERE FAR HIGHER THEN CHEVY AND FORD BUT LOWER THEN THE TOYOTAS HOW COME THE DODGES ARE RUNNING BEHIND THE TOYOTAS EVERY RACE, OK LOGANO LED THE MOST LAPS BUT EDWARDS WON WHERE WAS LOGANOS HORSEPOWER THERE. THE HORSEPOWER BIT IS GETTING OLD

well then you shouldnt watch NASCAR, because it started with the drivers and then NASCAR released the numbers and the drivers we right. and nobody had to develop new motors until Toyota got into this and they sent everything sky rocketing. we never had to run tapered plates to limit HP until Toyota got into this. Every race NASCAR has to give different plates out to the teams to limit HP and its crap.Toyota is ruining the sport and everyone is sick of it. this sport was born here not there. they are the ones that are costing the teams so much money. its just like Clint said ,any monkey can drive a Toyota.

  15. 15 ROWDY BUSH

WELL IF TOYOTA IS RUNNIN IT THEY BETTER GET USE TO IT CAUSE TOYOTA HAS FAR MORE MONEY THEN ANY OF THE OTHER MANUFACTUERS JUST LOOK AT F1 TOYOTA DUMPS JUST AS MUCH ANYONE INTO THAT SPORT AND THEY ARENT EVEN GOOD, AND THEY ARE GOING TO COME HERE AND SPEND THE MONEY AND ALL THESE PEOPLE THAT ARE MAD SHOULD BE MAD AT NASCAR NOT FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN, AS FOR WHAT BOWYER SAID SOUNDS LIKE A SORE LOOSER TO ME IVE NEVER HEARD EDWARDS SAY THAT ,,,,,,,,,,,

THE MAIN WAY TO DISPROVE THIS THEORY IS THE FACT DODGES RUN MORE HORSEPOWER IN THERE CARS THEN THE CHEVYS AND FORDS AND THEY ARE NEVER COMPETING FOR A WIN

  16. 16 teresa88fan

Its not a theory, the drivers that run for Dodge arent the greatest drivers out there, they arent in contention to win races so all the HP in the world wont help them.
Miller, Wise, Huffman, Sorenson, Shepherd, Pardo, and Keselowski

The only Dodge driver that seems to be able to compete for the win in the Nationwide series lately has been Kasey Kahne…and even then he doesn’t run a full schedule. Patrick has run up front in 3 of the 4 races he’s done as well, not in contention (well, Mexico he had a good shot), but up front.

I do hate the all caps Rowdy types in. That equates yelling in internet language. So take off the cap locks please.

Glad Carl won that race. Nothing like winning on your home track. Just ask Smoke. To be there and be part of it last year and in 2005 was awesome because of the overwhelming fan involvement. I hope Carl carries that momentum to the Brickyard because next to Smoke he’s my guy. I think all the gripes about Toyota are to be expected. Last year it was HMS. I can tell you the Toyota’s sound different on the track you can hear that and the Roush-Yates engines also sound different from the Chevy’s/Dodge’s. The Roush cars have been able to stay with the Toyota’s this year. They’ve just caught bad breaks at times. I think Chevy and Dodge still have some work to do but they aren’t that far behind. Much of this is about luck this year–being able to capitalize on a bad break. It seems Kyle has done that a great deal and look at Kasey Kahne in the 600 and the Daytona 500 with Ryan. It’s not all been about Toyota.

now as far as Toyota HP, how many laps did they lead?
    Kyle 86 laps
    Denny 32 laps
    Tony 16 laps
    thats over half the race.

But this year JGR has stepped up to make this car competitive and since it’s done so, people won’t stop bitching about it. They were a joke last year but this year it’s a whole new ballgame.
Here’s the breakdown on last year and please, I’m sure people on here will correct me if I get the facts wrong:
Last year, the first 19 races Chevy had 15 wins, 10 of which were Hendrick. The first 19 races of this year Toyota has 8, which all are Gibbs. I think Hendrick wins the battle a little on domination, it’s just more evenly spread out this year. (Last year Chevy had 15, Ford 3, Dodge 1 and Toyota none). This year so far we’ve had Chevy 4, Ford 3, Dodge 4 and Toyota 8. Looks a little more even to me.”

well alot of the wins posted by Chevy back in 2007 were mainly the debut of the RO7 motor that which replaced the old SB2 motor. we all knew that when the teams brought this motor into the sport that it was going to be competitive, and they were right. the Hendrick power was awesome and every motor that came out of the engine shop was within 5% of each other. so why then did Kyle not win races in 2007 like he is now, he had the power, got along with his crew chief, and had great chassis but still couldnt pull it off like he is doing this year. well because of the 2nd generation motor that JGR was delveloping in High Point last year under the blanket of TRD, thats why. while JGR wasnt suppose to have anything to do with or even touch a Toyota due to their contract with Chevy they were in High Point with TRD engineers R&Ding the new version of the motor they are using now.

  37. 37 Me

I think alot of different thinks go into why Kyle didn’t do that good at HMS. First let me just say I didn’t hop on the Kyle bandwagon this year, I’ve liked him for a while now (along with alot of other drivers), but that wasn’t always the case. I will be the first to admit, I did used to hate him… but I always thought he has talent and knew if he calmed down and grew up some, that he was going to go somewhere. Of course we all know he didn’t have the best attitude lol. But I also believe he’s grown up alot, esp since leaving HMS.
I personally don’t believe it’s all HP and Clints statement about any monkey driving the car. Where are all the other Toyota’s? Every year some other team is gonna dominate. Last year it was Hendrick, this year it’s Gibbs. Next year will be someone else.

  38. 38 Howie Motorsports Photography Registered User

At least your honest, I have seen a change in Kyle this season, I think a lot of it has to do with Joe spending a lot more time around him, its funny that when I saw Tony come in in 99 he was just as cocky, I mean he came to Daytona thinking he was great. And don’t get me wrong he was fast real fast. Back then JGR was in Pontiacs and I remember Sr. going up to him after the twins and and Sr. put his hands on his shoulder and said you got to keep your foot off the brakes and on the gas if your going to beat me and Tony just laughed and we all know what Tony has done since then. but Joe just has another Tony for the next 10 years and hes getting to old to babysit.

  39. 39 Howie Motorsports Photography Registered User

you also right on the way someone has to dominate, this year will be Toyota I’m sure but next year everyone should lookout for the Dodge teams to do a number on the field. Tommy over at GEM says the R6P8 motor has been put though the paces and will be hot next season.and the rumor is Acura will debut in the sport in 2010, there V8 for NASCAR is well into development stages with a team that is being kept as confidential. but it could only be HMS. He has the most Honda dealerships and with Chevy pulling out more and more from NASCAR it wouldnt surprise us .

I would be very upset and i assume so would Jr and Stewart( as he will be getting engine power from hendrick) The main reason jr went there (howie im sure you may have some mroe info on this) is because of A the relationship with rick, but moreso the fact that he was staying in a chevy.

  41. 41 Howie Motorsports Photography Registered User

well, I wouldnt worry about Stewart/Haas they have all of 2009 to get a engine program going, with the backing from Chevy and some key people coming to them in 2009 I dont think they were going to rely on HMS power forever. I mean at 125,000 a pop X 3 for every race, I would think that as a good businessman you would want to get away from that expense. As far as Rick, well we are only guessing but there is no other team involved in NASCAR that has such ties to ACURA like Rick has.

I’m a Gibbs fan (among others) and he might have another Tony for 10 years, but I’m pretty sure Joe knew what he was getting into lol. I’m not on here to try and convince people to like my drivers, but give credit where credit is due. I think that’s the difference with some people on here, I’m a Nascar fan and will call my drivers out when they do stuff, right along with anyone else on the track. But people want to talk about horsepower and monkeys, and even if you want to look at it that way, he’s started from the back, he’s been a lap down and still makes it through the pack. The horsepower might get you down the straightaway but it’s the driver that gets it through the turns/pack.
And for the record, I am not paid by Kyle to defend him or be a fan. I’ve seen that comment thrown around alot & think it’s stupid that the guy gets ripped from everything from his driving, to what his charity donates, to not sending his condolences, to his looks. I think every week people just look for something to hate on him and it’s just getting old. I’ll come on here and talk about Nascar with whoever wants to talk about it, but at least be adult about it! lol :)

    ????????????????????????????????????

If you read all the post it is Shrubs FAN who is the most immature. Yelling with every post, constantly downing other drivers with years of proven success, for example “The King” or “Dale Sr”. I am a nascar fan as well and I have always liked stewart, but shrub rubs me the wrong way and that is just the way it is.

Ok, and I’m gonna assume you’re implying he only has one fan? Everyone has their own opinion on drivers. I know Rowdy is pretty up front with the comments but he/she (not making a joke, just not sure if it’s a guy or girl posting) has made some pretty good points on some articles. Saying someone is yelling by using all caps is kinda ’90s. I just think maybe it’s easier for them to scroll down to find theirs, but that’s only my opinion. And not alot of people on here are mature, I’ve seen Jr fans among others wishing death/harm on Kyle along with alot of other really immature bs so it comes from both ends.
I don’t think anyone will catch Pettys record on some things, but racing was alot different back then. I was never a fan of Sr but always wondered when he wrecked cars out on the track it was cool, but when someone else did/does it, it’s bs. (And again, I’m gonna bring up Terry Labonte/Dale Sr last lap…) No one can actually say who will be better than Petty/Sr, but alot of people are on track.
I’m ok with you not being a fan, that’s fine. Like I said, I have no problems talking about Nascar/drivers, as long as you’re cool and not constantly throwing in a jab at me or my opinions…

And Kyle does have a advantage in the 18 car besides horsepower in that the JGR engineering staff has developed a very successful front end geometry that allows the new COT car to turn easier, erasing one of the new car’s biggest complaints.

As possible proof, an official from a competing team pointed out that when Busch wrecked his car in Saturday morning practice at Pocono last month, JGR crew members were quick to cover up the front end with tarps as to not allow anyone else access to see how the front end, despite its damage, had been set up. Then, crew members hastily removed key parts to the front suspension as to not allow further inspection.

I think that’s alot of hear say first of all. A) it came from an official from a competing team, if it even came from anyone at all. Of course you don’t want competing teams to see how you’re set up. Obviously the car has to pass inspection before and after the race and I haven’t heard Steve Addington take a 6 week vacation like Knaus has a few times these past few years. I’m not taking jabs at Knaus (don’t give me sh–, I do like him, he’s a nice guy…) but they are playing within the rules. And besides, he’s had wins with different owners in different divisions this year. Toyota but not all Gibbs, he knows how to drive them.
Back in the 60’s Petty won just about everything because he figured something out as with Gibbs today and Hendrick last year.

Its not hear say, it is the truth. and it did happen. the teams can do things to the front ends and it does not affect the rules. And Chad has been working on things with their front ends too. they just have not figured out what Gibbs know yet.

Yeah, i think he has one fan or two on this site, now three counting you. You are the only one who actually discusses and does not yell. I still think typing in all caps is rude and unnecessary.
Back onto JGR. they obviously have an advantage of some kind and I have said before that I think the crew chief is part of that.

He has more fans on here than that. Not many people comment on here at all, it’s the usual 8-10 maybe and I’m sure alot more come on here than that. Yeah, I have no problems bs’
