Edwards holds off Jr to win in Las Vegas

Carl Edwards raced to his second win in six days, holding off Dale Earnhardt Jr. on a pair of late restarts Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Edwards, who scored his first win of the season in Monday’s rain-postponed event in California, celebrated win No. 2 with his trademark backflip. The victory moved Edwards to the top of the Sprint Cup points standings for the first time in his career.
It was the fifth victory for team owner Jack Roush in Las Vegas, and ended Jimmie Johnson’s string of three straight wins in the desert.
Edwards caught a break to be in position to win, escaping a penalty when one of his tires rolled onto pit road during a late service stop. NASCAR ruled that a television cameraman shooting from inside the pit box was in the way of crew members and it contributed to the tire breaking free.
The decision kept Edwards in contention to run for the win, but two late restarts gave the competition a chance to run down his No. 99 Ford.
Kurt Busch’s wreck with 11 laps to go brought out the caution, and Edwards was in front of Earnhardt on the restart with five to go. But Earnhardt appeared to spin his tires at the start, and Matt Kenseth and Jeff Gordon had to split his car to avoid running into him.
As Gordon and Kenseth raced side-by-side, Edwards pulled away. Then Gordon drifted into the side of Kenseth’s car, starting a spin that led to Gordon slamming into the inside wall. His Chevrolet broke into tons of part and pieces, and NASCAR had to red-flag the race to clean the debris.
That set up a two-lap sprint to the finish, but the wait time cooled Earnhardt’s tires and he was unable to mount a charge on Edwards on the restart. Earnhardt’s losing streak stretched to 64 races.
“The red flag just really killed us,” said Earnhardt, who settled for second. “We were terrible on cold tires. It’s real frustrating.”

Good to see JGordon is OK after “the hardest hit I’ve ever had”. Bad ending to his good day. Also nice to see Kahne with top ten finishes and a good point placement for Truex. Of course I was sad to see the type of day Johnson had today…
Yea i agree with you on that. I heard some of the in-car audio of him. he was highly upset with the car. I wished that red flag never happened because of Jr’s situation, but i’m glad that gordon was ok too. That was a hard hit. I’m willing to bet if it wouldn’t have happened JR would have been in great contention for that win. For the record This is just my opinion, I can’t stand Carl Edwards regardless of his win today it has nothing to do with my opinion. I think he’s a prick enough said. Yeah i know he’s got talent im sure someone will say that well no s**t. I’m sure he didnt get in Nascar because of his looks because he surely has that Bugs Bunny teeth thing going on.
Glad to see the Roush and Yates teams run good today. Congrads to Carl.
Yeah good runs for David Ragan, Kvapil and Bobby Labonte had a good run all day too.
oh what Fisha…no comment about Junebug….u usually have a nasty comment about him or what hes capable of doing…now that we see carl was cheating i wonder why he won the race…chalk up another good run for the 88 car…many more to come..2nd of 3 races this season JR was the best finishing hendrick car by a mile…
man it sure smells like fish in here LOL. fish, you and what five other people follow them tops. they wasn’t up front contending for the win was they? good run where were they?
No kidding Darrell. LOL
Jr had a great day today. Too bad they had the red, cooling those tires off on him when he was already having issues with them on the restarts, jsut was a killer. Thank God his own teamate decided not to take him out too! And what is this crap of Gordon saying “well I’m a little bit to blame”. WHAAAAATTT! NO! You are all the way to blame, dumbass. Clearly his spotter was saying “car outside, outside”, and he would have ot be blind not to SEE Kenseth a half car length in front of him, but he still did a pit maneuver on him didn’t he? Gordon just thought he’s bunt him and drive right through as his usual style, but it backfired and he took himself out on that one. LOL I am glad he’s ok, but he deserved that one.
Good Job Jr!! Let’s roll into victory circle next week! =)
Jeff you must not be involved with racing on anything more then a fan level because you obviously do not know what Good Run means.
And Darrell… Prove what you are talking about. I have simply stated the truth and have never bashed him like you are implying.
Carl really spanked the field. How soon before they drug test him? Only kidding! I said that jokingly because ‘roid rage and Carl were a hot topic for a while last year. Poor Kenseth couldn’t catch a break. Junior came up a little short. Jeffy looked like a clown but admitted he made a mistake. I like that. Johnson didn’t have a clue all day and the Roush boys did alright over all. The Fords and Dodges were the cars to beat. It was kinda nice to see the Toyotas slip just a little. But they’ll be back.
I thought Kyle Busch was going to be a contender. Travis Kvapil did an outstanding job. GJ Carl.
What’s with Gordon getting into Matt Kensith? Seems to be his hobby to take him out. Completely his fault I might add.

wow this just proves my point on JR nation, listen people we do not hate JR just JR nation and we call it like we see it. Im sorry if we dont worship yall golden boy like you do but thats the beutiful thing about NASCAR we dont have to. Jr88fan, im sorry ot be the one to have to tell you this, but Gorden is your goldenboys teammate, you cant be a JR fan anymore and hate gordon or johnson, they are all running in the same stabe. Darrell fisha came in here and gave props to a couple drivers and you have to say something stuiped. JR nation get over yourself.

How true !! Good Run Dale Jr. and yes I do know what a good run looks like…
What’s this with, not on track, not running, out of race, why not say it like it is DNF, Did not finish the race, car was wrecked and could not run, damaged, unfixable, etc. Just plain ole DNF will do..
Oh what Truexfan… The truth was told and ya still gotta run your mouth with the “Jr nation, golden boy” thing. Yawn. Its old, get some new one’s.
And, NO I don’t have to like Gordon or Johnson because their all teamates now. What a crock. What is this “what’s good for one is good for all”? No. Those two are scum. I never have like them, never will. Just like I don’t like the Busch bro’s. But I like just about everyone else, I even have kindness for your guy. But, to say I have to like them… stupid. End of story.

Out of Race means out of race, Off Track means they are in the garage fixing the car, or they did not officially retire before the race ended, and there are not “Not Running” listed.
