Kenseth wasn’t very surprised when Edwards accosted him shortly after the race. “His behavior has been real erratic lately, honestly,” Kenseth said of his Roush Fenway Racing teammate. “You don’t know what to expect with him. That’s the thing that’s a little bit troublesome. One minute, he has so much respect for you, and he’s real friendly and everything’s so much fun. The next minute he wants to kick your butt and he’s swearing at you. It’s a little scary. You never know what you’re going to get. I thought it was good in a way that the cameras were there because a lot of us see that, and nobody else does because he kind of puts on a different front.”

Carl Edwards apologized Tuesday for his actions following Sunday’s race at Martinsville Speedway, saying he was wrong to show his anger toward Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth. Edwards said on a NASCAR teleconference that trouble has been brewing between the pair for a while and that it’s probably been six months since they’ve had a conversation. Now, he wants to change all of that. Edwards is hoping that he and his Roush Fenway teammates can do a better job of having a “team spirit,” and he says he plans to do his best to communicate better not only with Kenseth, but with all his Roush Fenway teammates. Edwards took full blame for his actions, pledged to get to know his teammates better and analyzed what could have brought on this type of display. He added that he would take the first step toward mending fences.

Owner Jack Roush has talked to both drivers with a simple message. “He told them they’ve got to settle this without wrecking our cars,” team president Geoff Smith said on Tuesday. “He told them to get yourself at peace with one another, then go compete against one another as hard as you want to compete.” Smith said neither driver would be punished by the organization, noting that Roush has a policy that teammates are allowed to compete against each other as though they are not teammates. Smith doesn’t believe Edwards intended to hit Kenseth.

Roush Fenway Racing drivers Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth got into a heated verbal exchange while both were leaving Martinsville Speedway on Sunday night. See Video
Kenseth was about to be interviewed by Speed Channel reporter Bob Dillner in the area of Turn 4 near the access tunnel when Edwards came up to Kenseth to complain about an on-track incident in the race.
The two exchanged words and Edwards appeared to raise his hand as if to strike Kenseth, but pulled away. Part of the incident was captured by Speed’s cameras and shown on the network’s post-race programming, “NASCAR Victory Lane” and “Speed Report.”
Officials with Edwards and Kenseth’s teams could not be reached late Sunday for comment.

I’ve noticed that Edwards has turned into a bit of a dooshbag this year, he seems to have grief with everyone who’s popular on the circuit.
I’m not mpressed by Kenseth either, not much of a man when you flinch halfway across the track like that, it’s not the first time he has jumped halfway across the track when he’s about to get knocked out. (remember the Jeff Gordon incident?)…I bet Kenseth’s wife feels so secure being with a puss, but she’s probably only with him for the $$$ anyway.
I agree about Edwards, Jordan. He is a professional victim. Did you see the video of a recent race where a crew member offered him a bottle of water and Edwards slapped it out his hand? As for Kenseth flinching, it appears to me Edwards is considerably bigger that Kenseth, and Edwards is known for his work out routine, that includes martial arts training. And besides, even going back to the 1979 Daytona 500, racers are not known for their pugilistic prowess.

Carl Edwards looks like and hangs with John Cena. He is in great shape. Matt would have to sneak up on him and then have Robbie Reiser sit on him.
carl edwards acts all poster boy on camera when he is interviewed, like he is the nicest humblest guy in the garage, he is such a fun interview blah blah, but the truth is he is a p____, he knows darn well he would destroy kenseth cause he is a big meathead look at him. he does look like john cena. slapping the water bottle out of a crewmans hand? real nice ____ face. remember when he nearly took juniors hand off? anyway carl is a p____ and poor matt. we all know he is a softy..but still theres no need for carl to fake punch him just to feel better about himself..

Jordan, you’re so vocal about how Matt’s a puss. Talk is cheap when you take jabs on a message board. If Edwards did the same to you, you’d probably be wetting your pants, but hey your big and bad online now aren’t ya?
As for Edwards stunt, me being a fan was quite disgusting. I’d like to see Edwards & Stewart in a ring during the off season. With Carl’s physical conditioning and Tony’s rage, that would give us something to hold us over til Daytona!
i dont care for edwards but my best guess is something is boithering him on a personal level. You dont just change like that for no reason or for the fame of the track. Soomethings goin on with him

As much as i’d like to think Carl’s clean, I think he might be beefing up a little too much by taking steroids. If you go onto a health website and look at the symptoms and such, aggressive behavior and mood swings are on the top of the list. All the media talk about Carl’s [natually] toned body seems to have gotten to his head and he felt like he had to be bigger to impress everybody.
Well, I hope Edwards isn’t taking steroids. He has something like ADD or ADHD (not sure which one)…steroids are bad anyways. With a condition like that (not saying there’s anything wrong with people who have ADD or ADHD) and adding steroids to it, makes things even worse.
I hope that’s not going on, but it makes me wonder.
Maybe NASCAR should put Edwards on probation like they did Jeff Gordon that time when he pushed Kenseth. The race was over, but the cameras were still going.
(sigh) NASCAR and their inconsistencies……
I can only imagine what the officials would have done if it was Tony Stweart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., or even Jimmie Johnson….seems like it’s a whole different set of rules for them.
the funny thing is: I was friends with Hamlin not too long ago and because Carl is my favorite driver–Denny told me COUNTLESS amounts of times that Carl wasn’t like everyone thought he was. And that everyon in the garage thought he was a jackass. I got angry with Denny and told him to F-off…. haha.
But I guess I’m in the wrong on this one….. Oh well I don’t care–Carl is still my favorite driver and he’s still a sweetie to me!

This does not surprise me, i was saying this way back when he ran over kyle petty for no reason there have been quite a few instances when edwards has shown he has a temper , like with Tony Stewart in pit lane and Jr on the track, why does everyone assume because of this latest instance it has to do with steroids, he’s always been agressive he just was better at hiding it.

I’m having mood swings to, its called depression but according to some of u hear I’m on roids. Why is the world so quick to judge and go straight for the drugs! Remember a few years ago, this is how Kurt Bucsh was, and A__ and didnt deal well with public outings. well give hime a year and he’s sort of changed. his temper has taken a back seat.
Ever think Edwards is getting pressure from some where, maybe the fame has gone to his head, there are so many other reasons for his actions other than roids.
Mood swings are just one of the signs that someone is on steroids.

Kurt was always a jerk, but I can’t say that I’ve ever seen him get physical with a teammate like Carl did! The only reason he changed is because he knew darn good and well Penske wasn’t going to take that BS, regardless of how well he did on track. Maybe if Roush had taken that approach, Kurt and Carl wouldn’t have turned into the smug whiners they are/were…

I do think has a problem. I’am not sure just what it is. But I do know that he is not the sweet little think that everyone thinks he is. I believe nascar should fine him and put him on probation, for they have everyone else, have they not! Looks like they play favorite with him just like the media does. Please be more constant, will you nascar and the media!

While Gordon did shove Kenseth, Edwards not only shoved Kenseth, he also drew back to hit him. I think he should have AT LEAST been placed on probation or something.
I don’t care if it’s roid rage, depression, stress, or what, you don’t see that going on in NASCAR all the time. The officials should not turn a blind eye to this, since they don’t when others do it.
There’s no excuse for it.

If Edwards can’t stand the pressure, dock him some points then….no matter how good a driver he is. If he can’t control himself better than that, maybe being put out of the chase will calm him down.

LMFAO o my God I can’t believe that most of you people think Carl Edwards is on steriods, it’s called mood swings. The guy is probaly just short tempered that’s all. Plus if he was on steriods he’d be bigger (above the waist kiddies) trust me I know what people on steriods look like I live in So Cal where image is every thing and the bigger the guy is the better (once agian above the waste people).
I guess that people don;t remember when Dale senior would hit drivers with which he was angry at in the rental cars on the way out of the track. I think that people are making a much bigger deal of this than it is, but that is what people often do.
