Earnhardt Jr. wins his 5th most popular driver award

Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the NASCAR NMPA Chex Most Popular Driver award for the fifth consecutive season in an announcement made Thursday during the Myers Brothers Luncheon.
Earnhardt Jr. earned 1.4 million of the 3.8 million votes cast on www.mostpopulardriver.com. Fans could vote once a day for their favorite driver, and voting ended November 19.
“I’m extremely honored to win this award again, because it puts me with a very select group of drivers who I have a lot of respect for,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “When I became a Cup driver in 1999, I never would’ve imagined that we’d be talking about five consecutive Most Popular Driver awards. I have a special place at JR Motorsports where I put the MPD trophies, so I’m honored to add another one to the collection.
“I don’t want it to sound like a cliché, but this award really does mean a lot to me after all we have been through this year. This year has marked a significant transition in my life and career, and I knew the fans could go either way in supporting my decision or not. It was tough, and I don’t underestimate the fans’ support. It’s been overwhelming, and I really appreciate it.”

What a shock, I think that only drivers that can win should be eligible for this award… l0l [sarcasm]
take his 1.4 million votes and divide it through by “25″ … which is the about the average number of times each participating Jr. Nation zeallot voted throughout the open balloting span… and you end up with approximately 55,000+ votes… about the same number of supporters the other top 10 drivers have…

however, i must say, time to get a new driver in here… anything that involved Jr in a good way, he will win it
He may be the most popular, but he isn’t even close to being the best.
Jimmie Johnson has that spot taken care of.
If I was a driver I would much rather be winning races than this award….I am pretty sure Jr. feels the same….good luck to him next year, on the track not for most popular driver.

Just think how many votes he’ll get next year when he wins Daytone and a Cup. JJ is not the best driver he’s just got the equipment. When he gets to 7 Cups like Petty and Sr. then you maybe able to say that.

Overrated every year would be Boris. Followed by Elliott Sadler and then probably a tie between Mayfield and Nemechek. Harvick, Robby and even Lepage fulfill their potential every year.
If the award didn’t matter, there wouldn’t be any JJ and JG fans on here crying about it. I’ll wait till next year to talk smack!

He isn’t close to being one of the best drivers. Don’t go and blame his equiptment, any real talented driver can drive the wheels off a racecar and get CLOSE to winning even if their car is ____. Jr is WAY to overrated. His FATHER was an amazing racer. Those type of things arn’t passed through genes; doesn’t mean Jr is going to be just as amazing as his father. I’m sick of constantly hearing Jr’s name every other minute during the races.

If you cannot not blame 6 or 7 blown engines what can you blame? All of the experts say that racing has changed that you cannot take a bad car and win! I voted…but only once….so change those numbers there Mike. Not everyone votes every day! I think Jr is popular because he isn’t a stuck up snob like some of the others and he still has some amount of hubbleness. He’s just a downhome boy who has had a great chance and has ran with it. He is who he is and that is that! He is awesome in my book! And so humble!
