Earnhardt is expected to announce Pepsi’s Amp energy drink as his new sponsor Wednesday; but Jeff Gordon hinted that it might be otherwise: “Have you tried the Jeff Gordon Energy Drink by Pepsi? There’s a huge investment there.”

A close source to AutoRacingSport.com has informed us that the DuPont people are saying a big surprise is in store in regards to Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s sponsorship announcement next week. That’s all we know…it’s likely something to do with Dale Jr’s paint scheme for next year…we’ll see.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will reveal his 2008 number and sponsors in a news conference at the Dallas Convention Center next Wednesday, Hendrick Motorsports officials announced Thursday.
Sources confirmed earlier that Mountain Dew and the Amp energy drink, both PepsiCo Inc. products, will become two of Earnhardt’s primary sponsors next season.
The announcement is coming in Dallas because PepisCo Inc. executives are having an annual conference there next week.
The National Guard, which now sponsors the No. 25 Chevy of Casey Mears for the Hendrick team, is also expected to move to Earnhardt’s car in 2008.
The No. 25 is being eliminated and Mears is moving the No. 5 Hendrick Chevy, which is sponsored by Kellogg’s.
Earnhardt and team owner Rick Hendrick have managed to keep the new number a secret, except to say the number 8 will be involved in some fashion.
Hendrick Motorsports has requested trademarks from the U.S. Patent Office for five numbers that include an 8 — 81, 82, 38, 58 and 28. The number 28 was requested last week, which led to speculation it’s the choice, but Earnhardt previously said he liked 81.
Hendrick officials and Earnhardt also will reveal his car’s paint scheme for 2008 at the news conference.

I think Mt Dew and Amp are pretty cool, but National Guard is such a boring blah looking paint scheme. Hopefully they are working on something that looks a little more aggressive for it.
Ok, Dale Jr is a good driver, but you all cannont say he is going to be better than Gordon and Johnson, they are Two of the best in the sport. I’m not saying Jr won’t be competitive week after week, but Gordon and Johnson will still be up front…probably in front of

This is great news for Jr. How Ironic, though… Dale Sr. was CocaCola all the way, and now his son is sponsored by a division of PepsiCo. And something else ironic… Bud is going to Kasey Kahne… and Mountan Dew is going to Jr. It’s like they’re switching. Nice.
And 28 wasn’t that lucky of a number for the last decade it was used. Haha… maybe it will be 28… That means it’ll be a mixture of 24 and 48… Ah, Jr is going Hendrick all the way. Good for him. Go Gordon/Johnson/Earnhardt Jr./Mears in 08.
And damn I hope Johnson wins another title this year.

Um, no… That’s the thing… DEI DOES have great equipment. Well, fast equipment, anyway. Jr. had plenty of chances to win throughout the season with that equipment before some bad luck struck. It’s not going to be that much different next year. He’s going to have good luck, bad luck, and everything in between. As for that last comment about 90% being equipment…I’m not accepting it because you know it’s not true. I’d be willing to bet my last dollar that both Johnson and Gordon will have more wins that Junior next year. I know you hate the fact that there are drivers better the Lil Dale, but there are. And two of them happen to be Johnson and Gordon…. another being Stewart. Just look at the physical condition of Johnson when he gets out of his car after the race compared to Junior. Junior looks like he is about to fall out from being so exhausted… but when Jimmie gets out, it’s like he was on a Sunday joy ride or something. Physical condition helps in how you drive and as bad as you hate to admit it, Johnson is a much better driver than Dale Jr.

That’s a good question… I’m sure it does have a little to do with it. That, or it’s just the style of driving that each driver has that determines what condition they are in after the race. Like Johnson drives his heart out all race while Jimmie takes it easy–stays in the top 5 or so–then uses his stuff at the end. Smart driving… That’s the problem with Kyle Busch, Kasey Kahne, etc. etc…. that use up all of their stuff throughout the race… and it’s all gone by the end. Sometimes it works for them, but as stats show… most of the time, they don’t.

I wish most of the people on here would actually learn about racing before they come on here and run there mouth off…look dale sr has been dead for 6+ years let it go he cant be your favorite driver, he doesnt drive anymore…I know you got that winston cup jacket by smoking 800 cartons in 1992 but cut the mullet and get a new jacket…contrary to popular belief there is a whole world of racing outside of nascar, yall should gander at f1, fia GT, grand am cup, austrailian v8 supercar, indy what have you not.
Let’s not forget that next year will be full time for the COT. Jr. has commented numerous times that he does not like the COT and that may (or may not) affect his skills. However, Hendrick has gotten in good with the COT and it may be a better car for Jr. than DEI’s COT. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
You know all this talk about JJ and JG is really uncalled for. Junior is his own driver and he learned from the best! Wait and you all will see next year! This is going to be the greatest announcement yet that Jr and RH will make and I’m excited to hear and watch them speak. Hendrick and Junior have a great future to look forward to and so do all of us fans. Just wait and watch next year, I will be definitely!

I’m no Jeff Gordon fan, so don’t get me wrong. But, this season he is proving himself to be one of the greatest drivers ever. As much as I dislike saying so….. I just find it ironic that one of the best drivers ever, will be on the same team as the most over rated driver ever. Jr is nothing but a cash cow at this point, if he doesn’t win a championship in the next three years he probably never will becasue of the influx of talent from other series, and guys like Denny Hamlin. I think it would be hilarious if Kyle Busch wins a championship first.
