Earnhardt, Jr still has a big reason to celebrate

Dale Earnhardt Jr. had the Talladega Superspeedway fans on their feet Sunday in the final 10 laps of the Aaron’s 499, using the high line to charge to second place.
But Earnhardt Jr. later slipped back as Hendrick Motorsports drivers Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson drove to the front, and Earnhardt Jr. had to settle for a seventh-place finish after a caution during the green-white-checkered finish.
“We didn’t have the car to seriously run up front today,” said Earnhardt Jr., who started 36th and led two laps. “We could put ourselves in a position to move up and maybe get lucky, but we were just outrun.”
Still, Earnhardt Jr. said he was going to celebrate Sunday night because April 29 is his late father’s birthday.
“It’s a good day for me,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “His birthday always means a lot to me each year. We treat it like a holiday, and I’m headin’ home now to open a few cold Buds and celebrate. We’ll celebrate tonight.”
