Dale Earnhardt, JrDale Earnhardt, Jr., NASCAR’s five-time most popular driver, is the first buyer of a new upscale condominium near Talladega Superspeedway, site of five of his 17 of NASCAR Sprint Cup victories.

The Legacy Condominiums at Talladega are being marketed to race teams, drivers, corporate sponsors and die-hard fans. It is located less than one mile from the speedway.

“I am excited to be the first purchaser of a Legacy Condominium at Talladega,” says Earnhardt, Jr., driver of the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolets for Hendrick Motorsports. “I enjoy coming to Talladega. It’s one of my favorite race tracks, because we’ve had so much success there. I love the area, and I love the fans there. I look forward to enjoying the place and all it has to offer.”

The condos offer a place to relax and refresh before and after races. They also afford a unique networking opportunity because of buyers who will undoubtedly follow in Earnhardt Jr.’s lead.

“It is rare to have a NASCAR superstar living next door,” says Lori G. McDowell of RE/MAX United. She says it’s fitting for him to be the first buyer.

“Earnhardt, Jr. is in the lead on the racetrack so it makes sense for him to be ahead of the curve here too,” she says.

McDowell says the condos offer buyers to be a part of a “legacy.” Luxury Suites start in the low $300s and penthouses in the low $500s, although exclusive pre-sale offers are being offered. The Legacy Condominiums are in a gated community, offer four unique buildings, golf cart charging stations, two in-ground pools and on-site security during races.

“Our family is built on the legacy of those before us, so being involved with the Legacy Condominiums at Talladega is a natural,” says Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, Vice President and General Manager of JR Motorsports. “We look forward to having a relaxing place to stay while in the Talladega area.”

Your on to something there. I think that at all tracks there should be a hotel complex that is just for the Racers/Crews/Media (well not really media, but the announcers/crew who are broadcasting the races that weekend).

That way if a race gets postponed till Monday or even further into the week, all of those people are not scrambling to extend/find other hotel rooms. Now it wouldn’t be free, but it would not cost as much as the hotel rooms do, plus it’ll let everybody relax a bit more because it’d be on track property so they wouldn’t have to deal with traffic when they are trying to get to the track in the morning or the hotel rooms at night.

It’d be sectioned out into areas too. One area would be the Drivers Area which would be 200-250 rooms that’d be fairly nice rooms for the drivers and their significant others and kids if they have any, then there would be a ton of Crew Rooms which would be rooms with a bunk bed type system so that about 10 crew members would sleep in one room, And then there’d be the Media section which would be a mix of both room styles so that way the broadcasters that bring their family to some of the races would be able to have their own private room.

It’d have to be a decent size complex, and it’d have to have uses during the non-race weeks, but overall I think it’d be a good idea and really probaly help eliminate some of the toll that the on the road lifestyle does to you.

I would think a lot of drivers would make similar purchases. Back in the 1990’s, a guy I know bought a condo at Charlotte. He paid $75,000 for a new 2 bedroom unit. He sold it about 5 years ago for $300,000. He says that same unit is worth about $500,000 now. That’s crazy!

Kasey Kahne, give me a break, do you know this young man, he is very nice, but he is tied to his MOTHER Apron !!

On the flip side, Go Jr, I’d buy also, If I had the money, raced there and needed a nice place to stay when at the track. Other wise, there is NOTHING in Al. Been there, hot, dry and very little to do.
