Jeff Gordon - DuPontHendrick Motorsports and Jeff Gordon today announced an extension of their NASCAR Sprint Cup Series sponsorship agreement with DuPont through the 2010 racing season.

At that point, the sponsorship will have been in existence for 18 years.

The contract extension was announced by Gordon and David G. Bills, DuPont chief marketing and sales officer, on DuPont NASCAR Day, an employee appreciation event held annually at the company’s headquarters in Wilmington, Del.

“DuPont has a long tradition of excellence in the automotive world and we’re proud to be a part of it,” Gordon said. “The fact that we’re now in our 16th year together speaks volumes about the success of this partnership.”

For some reason I thought JG, Dupont, and HMS all had some kind of lifetime deal but I guess that was just JG and HMS.

Me too, but I suppose Dupont will stick with Gordon until he retires, then seek their options from there.

8 years with the Rainbow, this year is 8 years with the flames, so next year he should have a new scheme. I think the most amazing part of this article is that Jeff has been in NASCAR for 16 years, heck I’m only 20 and it doesn’t seem like he’s been in all that long.

hes been talking semi retirement like mark martin is doing starting in 2010 to spend more time with ingrid and his child…so this article would make a lot of sense

It’ll be strange to see someone else driving that car especially with DuPont still as the primary sponsor.

Are you just making a thought because of the 8/8 or do you know if they really have plans to change the scheme?

I have hard rumblings from some people I know down in that area that they MAY change the scheme, but nothing official.

Personally I would like to see a scheme like one of the ones that Ricky Craven ran on his Dupont cars back in the early 90s.

It would be neat. I’d like to see Gordon finish, whatever his last year may be that he decides, to run the rainbow scheme. May not look as good on the COT but what’s it matter.

Actually the Rainbow scheme looks pretty good on the COT.

Jeff has had a fantastic career but does look like he is ready to move on to the phase of his life.
