Does NASCAR inspector’s claim of racism have merit?

Former NASCAR technical inspector Mauricia Grant filed a $225 million suit against NASCAR on Tuesday, alleging racial discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliatory termination. I believe her accusations about discrimination and harassment, but don’t think she deserves that much in compensation.
Grant, who is black, was fired in October 2007, but NASCAR won’t say why. She started with the organization in January 2005.
NASCAR chairman Brian France denied Wednesday that she complained to her supervisors about the alleged behavior by some good old boys who worked with her in what as then the Busch Series.
France might not be a racist or sexist, but don’t rule out some of those who work for him.
I’ve heard one veteran Cup driver use the “N” word and doubt he’s the only bigot in the garage.
How many folks do you know who say they won’t consider voting for presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama because he is half Kenyan?

I grew up hearing anti-Semitic comments from people who didn’t know I was Jewish.
There is racism in NASCAR and most of America. If you don’t believe that then you’re either living under a rock or as dumb as one.
Americans of African descent long have been part of professional drag racing as drivers, mechanics and officials. So don’t tell me they aren’t interested in racing.

i don’t believe a word this b#t&ch says, some of the 17 officials she named must have double person-allies because she has accused some really nice people and i think that if she goes all the way with this she will find out that she will lose in court. she is hoping they will settle out of court so she does not have to prove these wild accusation’s
I agree whole heartly with Howie. that is the way they did it in NY. sue for a lot, then settle out of court for an undeclosed amont. either way, she will never have to worry about looking for a job again. usless she blows away all the millions of $$$ she is going to get.
The biggest problem is African-Americans have become the largets group of Racist Biggots but yet they get away with it because most people are afraid to hurt their feelings by speaking out against it. There is not a single African-American living in this country today that was ever a slave in this country and there is not a single slave owner still alive in this country either. What happened two hundred years ago was a tragity but I’m sick of being blamed for it. Of all the people I have met in my quarter plus century of life, the biggest racists have ALWAYS been Black people. I’ve known people of all colors who were racists to some extent but day in and day out I have to hear the same vile hate speech aimed at White people that Black people take so much offense to. If this woman was mistreated then she should be compensated, not to the tune of $225 million dollars but maybe 1% of that. $2.2 million is more then she would probably make in five life times and these people who mistreated her should have to pay for their actions. I’ve worked more then one job were I was subjected to hate speach just for being White and I didn’t get anything because of it. Why didn’t I get anything??? Because I’m White so the rest of the world thinks it’s no big deal when “The Man” gets harrased. If African-Americans want people to change their opinions of them then they need to change their behavior. Ever time I hear a Black person insult or degrade someone just for being White all it does is reafirm the on going stero-type that so many Black people are always crying foul over.
Blacks are the biggest racist of us all, so they are the ones with all the problems about race.
If they would leave their color at home, nothing would ever be said.
What a sad, weak and whiny country we have become. We need to go back to the days of hauling off on our children for stepping out of line and not coddling them every step of the way. Maybe then someone’s feelings won’t get hurt when they hear a dirty word or when they don’t get picked in gym class.
Research discrimination and sexual harrassment cases most have the same senerio they were fired.
I don’t know about NASCAR, but drag racing is very racist; with several white people in the audience with large confederate flags shouting anti-black comments. I think that some whites are upset that blacks and latinos have taken over and dominated some of the sports that they used to keep them out of; (football, baseball, boxing, track, tennis, basketball, etc.) Racism has always been based on FEAR! Scared that you might get beat at the track by a black man that just might be smarter, faster and have more determination than yourself. Grow up white people and realize that we are all Americans and not black and white. But this is only realized when someone attacks this country then you put down your racist flag (confederate) and ask us to fight with you!
