DaimlerChrysler’s decision to sell majority ownership in Chrysler to the private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management is not expected to affect Dodge Motorsports’ participation in the Nextel Cup series.
In anticipation of the sell, Mike Accavitti, the director of Dodge Motorsports and Tom LaSorda, the chairman of DaimlerChrysler, visited with Dodge owners Ray Evernham, Chip Ganassi and Roger Penske at Bristol to reassure them of the company’s commitment. All the Dodge teams are locked up contractually through at least 2009.
“We talked to everybody today,” Accavitti said. “The message is pretty consistent. We don’t intend on going anywhere.”
- Target says they’re not leaving Ganassi
- Texaco Havoline to quit NASCAR
- Ford says they’re staying in NASCAR
- Truex will race for DEI at least through 2009
- Drastic change for Busch Series? Pony cars by 2009

Big deal if it’s just through ‘09. I wouldn’t call that very reassuring!
Atleast they have more time to decide on it.
“We talked to everybody today,’’ Accavitti said. “The message is pretty consistent. We don’t intend on going anywhere.’’
Glad to hear that the message is still loud and clear for now.

You’re right, that isn’t very reassuring at all.
Hearing that stuff from this Accavitti dude feels like hearing that kid’s parents aren’t going to get divorced when everyone knows they are. If I was him I’d be looking for a new job… 2009 ain’t far off.
Maybe KIA will come into the sport and fill Dodge’s place…..
if kia comes into nascar then everybody is gonna stay home an watch football or somthin.
If any other import comes into nascar and dodge leaves.. Im sure nascar would die out from all the idiots that think Kia, Honda, Toyota, and other imports like them can compete and beat out Dodge, Chevy, and Ford.
Nascar is not the same, and its just getting worse.
Things don’t look good for Ford either if they don’t pull out of their current financial situation… They’ve been under pressure to drop their motorsports program recently.
I would throw up if Dodge was gone and Kia raced, but I don’t see how they could afford to pump around a quarter of a billion into racing every year.
sadly, most of you are right. there is no question toyota shouldnt be here, but nascar doesnt care about tradition, they care about money. while the direction of any business is to be successful, tradition should be much more adhered to than it is. anyone wanna watch real nascar racin’!? watch the bucsh east series or pro cup or arca. thats good stuff without most of the b.s. pr and crap nowadays. they need to boot out toyota, lock in ford, gm and dodge, and reinstate n. wilksboro, darlington one more time. most of em are just a bunch of faggots runnin around in costums. it makes me sick. hopefully nascar will learn. you don’t have to piss off lots of people to be successfull.
