Max SiegelMax Siegel, president of worldwide operations for Dale Earnhardt, Inc., said Saturday that the team is still talking with Budweiser, still hoping to add a fourth Nextel Cup car in 2008 and is still looking for a replacement for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in the #8 next year.

“We still have our existing commercial relationship with Bud, talking about what’s best with everybody, still engaged in conversations with potential drivers,” Siegel said Saturday at New Hampshire. “Hopefully in the next four weeks we’ll get something wrapped up here.”

Of the team’s car count next year, that’s still up in the air, too. “We have a couple of unique situations that could give us a fourth (car in 2008),” Siegel said. “Realistically, by ‘09, definitely we’ll be a four-car team.”

Doesn’t look like JR leaving will cause any hardship. It would be hilarious if DEI crowned a champion in a Bud car next year.

wtf?!?…..i thought bud was goin with jr??…..idk i dont get paid to make stupid decisions like they do….i support jr i hope he made a good choice with hendrick…but i wonder if the fans are gonna be diehard 4 him next year as they are now?!?

I think that in the end Budweiser will go with JR. He is the most marketable driver in NASCAR. I just can not wait for all the decisions to be finalized so that we don’t have to care about all the rumors.

Bud would be making a big mistake by not following Dale Jr.

I agree, things will be fine for Jr no matter what but I don’t think Bud can find another driver that could fill his shoes.

We’re being told that Jr is getting some huge sponsorship offers and that is what might cause Bud to stick with DEI.

Lets also take into account that there is another Earnhardt at DEI besides Kerry. Might be a good option to stick with DEI a couple more years and pick up sponsorship with Jeff Earnhardt if he turns out to be as good of a driver as Sr. like a lot of reports are claiming.

Just cause Max says its so , dont mean crap. He was confident Jr. would be back , and that turned out to be a big “duh”. So Max aint all that.

Justin said it perfectly. It’s too early to know anything yet.

I’m surprised Max doesn’t have Jesse Jackson involved! If and when he does, they can extort money from everyone like Jesse does once he gets his cut. Remember when Jesse strong armed Miller into giving a local black short tracker money a few years ago? It was something like $250,000 for a local guy. The best local short trackers might have a $100,000 budget after they’ve built up a nice resume. Most of that the car owner obtained on his own or used his own money. Color had nothing to do with it. Jesse also strong armed A-B into giving his sons a very lucrative Bud franchise about 10 years ago. Whites couldn’t compete for it. They became instant millionaires. Stay tuned folks!

This Max dude makes me laugh. Too bad his business endeavors have been so successful in the past and now to have the almost impossible job of keeping DEI afloat. He’s already failed at what he said was his primary job when he got hired…. That was to keep Junior.

Max Is trying to cover his **s so the general public and any potential sponsers dont see that he is steering DEI down the drain!

Max and Teresa desrve each other.

    gigolo george—-you’re halarious!
(I’m surprised Max doesn’t have Jesse Jackson involved!)

anyway…it dont matter WHAT DEI does or doesn’t do,
after this season’s episodes between jr and step money i mean
step mother, DEI has lost respect of lots of fans and possibly
potential future sponsors—which is bad for jeff earnhardt if
he’s up and coming following his dad and brother.

it aint gonna matter how many cars theresa has on
the DEI team as long as she dont have jr!

winds may change with sponsorships and car numbers
but those dont amount to a hill of beans when a
driver is suddenly supported by his team’s owner and
    his confidence takes over again………

it’s gonna be an exciting 2008

  15. 15 James

WHy the hell would DEI go to 4 cars if they can barely get the 3rd one in? if i was them i would worry about getting the 3rd one in before going to 4 cars.

  16. 16 Chris

Kellogg’s and CarQuest are signed w/ the #5 through 2009 (I believe, but I’m not sure). I don’t believe they will follow him to his new team, as Kyle will likely end up w/ the sponsors for what the car has now, or in the scenario that he goes to a startup team, they’ll find a new sponsor.

Dale Jr. does have a personal contract w/ Budweiser, so he’ll still promote it, he just will not have Bud as the main sponsor. DEI made that deal, so even iff Bud wanted to go w/ Jr., it probably won’t, b/c Budweiser is signed through 2009 as well.

I wonder the same thing a lot of other people are. They don’t know who’s gonna drive the #8 next year, so how can they come up w/ a driver and sponsors for the #81 (or whatever number they choose)?

jr and bud they go together cant see anyone else use that sponser its been with dale many years.
