Dale Earnhardt, JrDale Earnhardt Jr. wants to test a car for Hendrick Motorsports at the upcoming Atlanta car of tomorrow test, but said he would only do so if Dale Earnhardt Inc. allowed it.

DEI’s answer? Go ahead.

“We’re talking about it and we don’t necessarily have a problem with it,” DEI vice president John Story said. “We recognize that Dale Jr. and Tony [Eury] Jr. both need to get going with their new program and we’re not going to stand in their way.”

DEI had already planned to put Regan Smith in the No. 8 car during the two-day Atlanta test, which will take place in the two days following the Nextel Cup race at the track. Tony Gibson will be the crew chief at the test for DEI, as Eury will already have left for Hendrick.

“It would be positive for everybody,” Story said. “It would give Regan a chance to work with our team and give Tony Jr. and Dale Jr. an opportunity to go work with their new guys. In the spirit of cooperation, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

After all the “DEBATE” we had about this it appears that DEI is not a good business group. Because several JR haters felt
like it would be bad business to let him test. I felt like it would have been bad business not to let him test, as did many of the fans posting on this site.

They let him test with Hendrick because they wanted Regan Smith to test in the 8. So there was no reason (other than if they wanted to be hateful) not let Jr. go test with Hendrick. Will look forward to hearing how the test goes.

Oh there has to be more to this story. DEI doesn’t give up easy. They have apparently wanted the same thing….to be able to test Ragan. But I bet there is more to it. Hmmm…I wonder what is up their sleeves?

Learn to let things go….You can justify a business decision either way.
