euryjr_earnhardtjrIf you ask Dale Earnhardt Jr., Dale Earnhardt Inc., didn’t drop the appeal to NASCAR’s Car of Tomorrow penalty against the No. 8 team just because they presumed they had no shot at winning. They were actually concerned it may get worse.

In this week’s edition of Unrestricted, Earnhardt Jr’s weekly radio show on XM Satellite Radio, that “there were some discussions about forcing the [No. 8] car to have to qualify for every event.”

In other words, he’s saying NASCAR contemplated stripping the team’s guaranteed position in the field for being among the Top-35 in owner’s points.

“We were worried that if we went to appeal and it didn’t go, you know, somebody said a cross word and upset somebody, or something didn’t go right, it could become a worse penalty, and [we] decided to drop it and just take our lickings,” Junior said.

NASCAR seems to be becoming more and more over bearing if what Junior is saying is accurate. In a court of law it would be considered unethical and unlawful to penalize someone for appealing a conviction. Too bad there isn’t a group to police NASCAR’s decisions. They’ve done things that are way more questionable than any crew chief, team or driver ever has.

This is what happens when a series races with a rulebook, written in pencil. Had this situation played out, Nascar would have the were within there right because rule #XYZ.abc states they are allowed too.

I think itd ghetting to the point where the car owners should get a vote or a say so on some of Nascar decisions. I mean nascar has a monopoly on its racing and noone really has any real recourse if they feel nascar isnt playing fair. And we all know they have the unofficial rule “not in the best intrest of nascar” they can fall back on. They need to have the penalties for rules infractions written on paper and not just in Mike Helton and Brian Frances head somewhere. This is another reason people suspect nascar of favortism , when one team gets a slap on the wrist and another gets the book thrown at them.

had this been gordon or johnson appealing, nascar wouldve have give them another get out of jail free card. and dropped the points and fines

  6. 6 Michele

You better believe if it were one of hendrick’s “Golden Boys” they not only wouldn’t have fined them, muche less taken away points - i think NASCar has a vendetta going against jr.

  7. 7 Breanna Crooker

Oh god please don’t say that, it gives the people who call Jr fans
stupid because we think they’re tougher on him a reason to bash us.
I think they have favorites, but I don’t think they have a vendetta
    against Jr.

As far as what Jr said, I’ve never seen him lie before and I don’t
find that unbelievable in the slightest. I find it highly believable,
    actually.

Don’t ya’ll hate when NASCAR calls something they don’t like “actions detrimental to stock car racing”?

That is the most ambiguously gay thing I’ve ever, and I mean EVER heard. I know they didn’t say it in this case but a previous comment by Justin reminded me of that “rule”.

Also, like Justin said… Can we get a f**king rule book? I’ve heard that people in the sport and people with NASCAR licenses have them but I’m starting to believe that is a myth.

  9. 9 Andy

Wow that is crazy. It’s like NASCAR is putting a knive to their necks threatning them if they say anything. That is wrong. And what Axel said at first, they cant be inflicting higher punishment because of an appeal.

NASCAR officials are taking the SPORT out of
SPORTSMAN as in sportsman like conduct!!

What a sham and a disgrace for ALL of the sport!

    Yay for Nascar!!!
