Davis upset Mayfield didn’t qualify for Daytona

Team owner Bill Davis was upset with Jeremy Mayfield, who failed to qualify for the Daytona 500 despite fast times in testing and in practices at the track. Davis said Mayfield’s No. 36 car was good enough to post a top five or top six finish.
“It’s just awful,” Davis said. “It’s one of the worst things to ever happen to us because it’s one thing to not have speed and just struggle and not get the job done. But we had a great car, as far as speed goes, and we didn’t get it done on qualifying day and then didn’t do the job, didn’t drive it well enough to race our way in.”

Mayfield sucks. He wrecked a car on purpose at Evernham what do you expect him to do??
Mayfield is a good driver, he NEVER wrecked a car on purpose. that was a RUMOR started by fucking RAY EVERNHAM. he needed a way to get rid of him so he said that mayfield was wrecking his cars. Mayfield tries his best, davis has to rmember tat there wer 60 othere cars tring to get into the 500 besides the 36.
How would Evernham see mayfield wreck? He’s too busy feeling up Erin on top of the pit box.
I’m not a Mayfield fan, but I don’t see how this was Jeremy’s fault if Davis gave him a great car. I could qualify for Daytona with a great car because you just keep the throttle planted the whole lap.
