NASCAR on Fox lead analyst Darrell Waltrip, who lost his voice during last week’s race at Bristol, was diagnosed with severely inflamed vocal cords on Wednesday of this week. This prompted a visit to Dr. Katherine Garrett (aka the “Voice Doctor To The Stars”) at the Vanderbilt Voice Clinic where she treated DW with a steroid.
Dr. Garrett, who has treated Charlie Daniels and other Nashville singing stars, has DW under strict orders to severely limit his speaking. He is expected to return to the booth March 30 in Martinsville. “It took eight years, but I finally figured out a way to get more air time,” quipped DW’s pre-race colleague and former crew chief Jeff Hammond.
- Darrell Waltrip would shorten ‘The Chase’, have separate points
- Could Dale Jr land another beverage sponsor?
- DW named starter for the Gatorade Duels
- Waltrip selling Truck team
- Waltrip and Hammond nominated for Emmys

BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY, LET’S GET THAT VOICE BACK BOY!!!
I can’t say that I’m disappointed.
It’s going to be hard for him to Not Talk.
Take Care and get your voice back.
THANK GOD! hope he is out for the rest of the season lol
Larry Mack can let DW sit on his lap and then we’ll have to figure out which one is the dummy.
This must be killing old DW… I would never wish real harm on him but… A few more weeks of a non talking DW would not be a bad thing at all… How about flash cards for him, you know the caned responses he could flash at the appropriate time. lol
good luck DW. hope to hear boogity boogity this week-end. U are the best sports talker and u know your stuff. u been there and u did that. get well and god bless u and yours…
I for one like hearing him talk. I actually like hearing the sound of his voice. And I LOVE hearing him say- BOOGITY, BOOGITY, BOOGITY-LETS GO RACING BOYS!!!
Get well soon DW!
