Dale Jr not the winningest driver to run the #8
Quote selected text Published August 20th, 2007 in NASCAR News
To the citizens of Red Nation: My dear brothers and sisters, do not fret over the fact that your beloved slanted 8 will not be joining your beloved Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Hendrick Motorsports next season.
Yes, it stings. Yes, we all thought the Budweiser ad about having to alter your tattoos and yard ornaments was merely a joke. But, yes, we shall survive this. As will Junior, Teresa, Hendrick and, yes, even the digit located between 7 and 9.
Truth is, the No. 8 was in the NASCAR business long before Driver No. 8. In fact, and this might hurt a bit, Earnhardt isn’t even the most successful driver to have the numeral slapped on the side of his car. Not even close.
In all, 82 men have run the 8, beginning with Billy Carden. The man from Mableton, Ga., started third and finished 15th in NASCAR’s second-ever Strictly Stock (now Nextel Cup) race, run on the grueling 4.15-mile beach and road course in Daytona. They ran only eight races that season, and the No. 8 was used in four races by three different drivers, common practice in those early “hired gun” days.
Including Carden’s inaugural start, the 8 has run a total of 1,264 Cup races, steered by two Jacks, three Joes, six Dicks, and guys named Possum, Pop, Tiny, Skip, Banjo, Elmo, Bud, L.D., J.D., E.J. and D.K. Earnhardt is the third Junior to drive the car and isn’t even the first Dale Earnhardt. Senior made one start at Charlotte in ‘75.

Dale Jr not the winningest driver to run the #8 or ANY OTHER NUMBER.
And he never will be.
Hum, yeah Ok.
We know he isn’t the first to run #8 or the last but that still doesn’t mean we understand
why Teresa cares to keep it.
Wanna know something interesting. Bud Moore retired the #8 after the death of Joe Weatherly, he switched to the #1 but after Billy Wade died at Daytona he retired it and switched to the #15 which was used for the next 35 years in Nascar and also was a famed number for Moore as he ran Mercury Cougars and Boss Mustangs in the SCCA Trans/Am series. Bud Moore was a famed Ford Owner.
Dale Earnhardt drove a Ford for Bud Moore after leaving RCR for 2 seasons to allow Childress to work on his equipment. He and Moore got at each other a little but Earnhardt respected him as much as anyone in the garage. DEI ended up having the #1, #8, #15. All Bud Moore Numbers
I know who the winningest driver in the number 24 is………….
I know who’s pathetic for being logged in as Anonymous…
There’s ONLY one anonymous…………honest.
But dufus is the winningest driver in Kelly’s bedroom.
Anonymous first of all jrs not a dufus. second kelly is his sister
3 ur a moron and needs to shut it before some1 else does it for u.
4 kelly is married and jr has a g/f.
1. jr=dufus
2. sister=lover in the south
3. nope
4. married to kin, jr is gay
Go Gordon!
You know, you ALWAYS see Gordon with a beautiful women, but never dufus……..hmmm.

The other Texan ran the number 8 Bobby Hillon Jr. He won a race or 2.
Beautiful women like gay guys because they’re not a threat.
…and have a kid with them?? cmon u gotta come up with something better than that. haha
This thread is not about gay people so please get back on topic.
thank you Mr Autoracingsport dude, Earnhardt was in the 8 for 7 yrs, in a very very competitive sport, being in the position to win several times, losing the luck, but you cant say a guy whose won 2 consecutive busch championships, sucks, and you cant say a man who has won 4 champs and is a point leader right now, sucks. But you can dislike a guy, you cant take the talent from a man, hate em all you want, like Dale was hated by Gordon fans, they know he is the best, though gordon beat his 76, doesnt matter, look over shit Dale started with junk, and ended with only decency he made work, Gordon started out with good equipment, even says so Dale left RCR for a few yrs so he got better equipment, and it worked out decent. think bout it Earnhardt had like 14 stable yrs in the #3 alone, so has Gordon with 24 with many yrs, just Gordon never had to go through the equipment, Sr had to. My point is, itll take Jr time to before he can go, he had bout 4 good years before everything went to junk, with switchin crews and cars, and stress with Teresa, obviously his dad died, so alot went on, youll see, just like Darrell said, wait till that boy hops in that car next yr and checks out at Daytona
i think JR. should try to get a X8 or /8 or 8 with a X or / GOWING THROW THE # 8
He won’t be the most winning driver in any number.
I used to like him, but not after watching he & Kelly
use fans & media to circle the wagons against Teresa
to obtain their ridiculous demands.
I used to think Dale Jr. had at least one championship
in him - but after seeing his true charactor this year,
he’s toast. It doesn’t matter what number Rick puts him
in next year, he’s gonna get eaten alive. He’s brought
bad carma onto himself..
I just wonder how many seasons it takes before Junior
tries to blackmail Rick Hendrick for something, just
like we saw him do to Teresa Earnhardt.
ok guys this is rediculus and most of ths bs is irrelevant to the topic. First off i will start by saying yes i am a jr fan and yes I hate jeff gordon. Thats a fan for ya. Now to adress the sexual prefferences of the drivers, Gordon has a kid so he is straight and Dale jr. has a girlfriend and 100s of girls crawlin on him weekly so why would he want to be tied down with the commitment to 1. Hes a genious he has unlimited numbers now.
Now we have that cleared up, on to winning. Sure he probably will not ever reach 70 or even 60 wins. Probably wont get to 40 but I will say he is good for atleast 1 championship and now he is with a team that has the experience and LEADERSHIP to make that happen. I highlight leadership for a reason. When your boss shows only interest in the money and none in the sport that will not help you win at all. I mean Jr bought a piece of equiptment to help the cars set-up and Teresa sent it backbecaus eit cost too much. Rick on the other hand spends no telling how much on equiptment to help his cars. As far as rediculous requests by Jr I dont think 51% for he, Kerry and Kelly is too much seeing as how they are the rightful heirs to DEI. Want to talk about rediculous what about Teresa’s demands for jr to be able to run the 8, she basically wanted control of the car and jr while he was at Hendricks, oh yeah thats reasonable. No matter what number he runs next season whether it be a random number in the 80’s or the 5 or some number like 58 or 68 jr will win and will be a contender.
The fake Justin above doesnt have a clue.
We can all See Who the Idiot is on these Posts…
As for the topic at hand. It too bad some people on thiw forum wish to keep the same type of mind set as the owner of the #8, which is a low down excuse for a human being………..
It is the later “justin” who is totally clueless… not I.
Teresa has done nothing but fend-off an outrageous blackmail
effort by Junior since the start of the year…
The punk has behaved and acted WAY too big for his britches this
past season (even further back)… he’s learned how to use the power
of television to create phony impressions of himself by the public.
Teresa spent her entire life from the start - building the company
with Dale Sr. It’s her life’s work. She founded it in 1980 right
beside Dale Sr. - and he deliberately “willed” it to her because of
those reasons…
Junior was already handed over 20% of the company by Teresa just because he’s
a family member. He had zero claim to any more equity than his 20% without
paying fair market value for it… which is exactly what is rumored
to have taken place earlier this year at the conclusion of contract negotiations.
But since it wasn’t free like everything else, he got his panties in a knot.
Senior never intended for this cocky little punk to pull such a
deralict menuever like blackmailing the company away from his
lifelong founding partner…
DEI would be in exactly the same state as it is today even if Junior
were never born…
Contray to what Junior thinks - neither “life” nor “DEI” revolves around him.
The “legacy” is not Junior. It’s about Dale Sr. and Teresa who founded and built
the company from scratch… along with 400 other people being the best they can be.
As for the claim of Junior “ordering” something for the shop… you have zero
knowledge of the circumstances in which it ocurred - or for that matter “if”
it ocurred. Besides - Junior has little credibility when it comes to knowing
what a race shop needs… we finally received his first “admission” out of him
on June 1st of this year when he admitted in the GM transcripts of having
NEVER been inside any other race shop in his life except DEI until he began his
free agent quest in May 2007. In that interview, he even admitted when questioned that
all the other shops he’d been visiting looked NO different than DEI and he was
surprised to learn (only 10 weeks ago) how “on par” that DEI actually was concerning
equipment - and this was all before the Ginn buyout.
“Junior” is the person who is “clueless”.
Even his own pull-down plate he purchased for his own shop Jr. Motorsports is a very
perimitive test system that can’t even generate dynamic inputs to the vehicle
chassis… only static tests. It was a waste of money given the superior test technologies
that exist. But he and Kelly tried to make it sound like they were “rescueing” DEI by
using it for DEI cars during a couple of races at the start of the year because DEI’s alternate
equipment was in repair. These two people deliberately embellished the circumstances with the
public so they could drum support with the fans and bias media, which refuses to conduct true
investigative journalism. It was all done to generate a phony impression against Teresa and aid
his blackmail attempts during negotiations…
Junior is a morally bankrupt person on a 6-year quest to obtain something that he
was not entitled to - until Teresa is ready to retire 20 years down the road.
But - that won’t happen now given the way he’s acted. poof. he’s done.
Look for Kerry to be the next CEO at DEI in 15-20 years. Teresa will long-outlive
Dale Junior anyway.
Junior’s always had a lust to wressel the company away from Teresa - and he obviously
lacks the moral concience - because he attempted doing it this year.
He left the legacy because (like a spoiled brat) he had his blackmail bluff
called unexpectedly… his plan failed. Now that he’s leaving, why should
Teresa start parsing-out the company (referring to the #8) just to placate the little piss-ant?
She shouldn’t. As hard as all this has been for everyone - she did the correct thing.
It is not I who is clueless… in fact, quite the opposite.
Countdown to Junior’s demise. T-minus 3 years and counting…
Wow Justin (not the clueless) Very insightful!!!!
insightful yeah right, he probably doesnt know what half of those words mean, nd yes Jr did buy a piece of equiptment, and yes i do know what i am tlking about. If you would like to actually take up any other comments about me not knowing what i am or am not talking about feel free to come to Kentucky.
