Dale Earnhardt, JrDale Earnhardt Jr. laughed at Eddie Gossage’s offer of $100,000 to drive in the IndyCar series race at Texas Motor Speedway on June 7. “Well, he thinks I’m a cheap date, I guess,” NASCAR’s most popular driver said before Friday Sprint Cup qualifying at Richmond International Raceway.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., standing on the qualifying grid at Richmond Friday, scoffed at the Eddie Gossage offer of 100K to run TMS’ IndyCar race.

Even if the TMS president upped his offer, Earnhardt didn’t appear interested.

“My conscious wouldn’t let me,” said Earnhardt, worth more than $20 million a year according to Forbes Magazine.

Replied Gossage, “But did he say no? The way I see it the door is still open. We’ll work on it. I’m open to negotiations.”

Funny thing is, the INDYCAR races at Texas are better then the cup races, much closer finishes. A lot less fans in the stands though…..

Why should he race a car that he does not have experience in at those speeds and risk injury or worse just to put butts in seats for Gossage.
When Jr. said the bit about “his conscious would not let him” I have to think that is what he was referring to…

Why would he want to take a step down? Nascar is the top of the food chain in racing, anything else is a training ground for cup.

maybe he can win a race at the lower level…

I wouldn’t want to make my first IRL start at Texas either.

Gossage is an idiot! How in heck would Dale be able to fly back
forth and really be prepared for the Cup race in Pocono. Not to
mention do you really think that Chevrolet, HMS, Jr’s sponsors
and others would let him do that? It was another stupid, over-the-
top deal with Gossage - like the tacky billboards he put up
for both the Cup and IRL races.
