Dale Jr has no problem with Edwards win in Vegas

Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn’t buying two theories: The first, that a bolt just happened to break, allowing for the oil reservoir tank lid to become loose on Carl Edwards’ car last week at Las Vegas. And the second, that he should be credited with the win for finishing second to Edwards, whose car failed inspection.
“That wouldn’t be a great way to win one,” the Hendrick Motorsports driver said after Sprint Cup practice Friday at Atlanta Motor Speedway. “I wouldn’t find happiness or pride in that, so it makes no difference to me. When it comes down to it, you line them up and you race and the guy that crosses the finish line first is the winner.
“And if you got out-cheated, then you didn’t do your homework. That’s just the way it is. I do feel like guys should keep the wins, like it is now. If they want to strip the wins, they have to do it all the time, even for an eighth of an inch low at Talladega, places like that, even though I’ve been caught like that.”

What a TRUE racer and great guy to alwys ben so even keel and have the “right” thing to say… always.
He is just saying that because if he gets caught cheating and gets the win he does not want the win taken off of his record. And the same can be said for just about every other race drivers in the world. If you were to say you wanted the win taken away, and the sanctioning body did not take the win away, the next time you get caught cheating and getting the win, they’d make sure to make an example out of you and take the win away.

At the end of the day though being credited with the win doesnt amount to a hill of beans without the points and bonus. On the other hand noone wants to win that way. BTW i dont think anyone with a liok of sense is buying into the faulty bolt story, it’s just a little too far fetched.

Same basic principle works for drivers. If Driver A comes out and says “Driver B cheated when he won, his win should be taken away”. If Driver A wins, and gets caught cheating during that win, NASCAR has every right to say “You wanted us to take the win away from him because he cheated and won, so that means you will have no problem with us taking the win from you”.

I agree with Jr on this one too, and I agree with Fisha as far as why he said it. He knows that down the road if they win a race with a car that is slightly outside the template or something he doesn’t want that W getting taken away from him!

Well from what he is saying about only having one bolt by design Roush didnt intend for the lid to come off, they just wanted it loose and thats still cheating.

Speed just showed an example of what roush did and it looks like it could be haszardous to the driver and allow oil into the cockpit. One bolt is not enough.

Hey don’t drag me into this… I think what he said was out of line too, at least If I would say something like that I would show proof of my accusations against him. I may not like him, but I don’t throw slanderish statements around without proof.
