It had only been one year and 2 weeks that myown husband had died when Dale was killed at Daytona. My heart immediately went out to the Earnhardt family and Theresa for I knew what the first year of widowhood brings. The look in Jr’s eyes in his photographs as he was leaving the hospital; that empty, heart shattered look said so much to my heart.

For Dale, it’s 6 years; for my husband, a life long die hard race fan; it’s now 7. The anniversary of a person’s death brings back the pain we initially felt, we miss them stronger and mourn again—although the degree of the pain is somewhat less as time goes on.

Each year on my husband’s “angel day” the main thought that brings a wisful smile to my lips is the thought of him saying, “C’mon Dale—let’s go do it on DIRT”. My husband owned a stock car and drove it himself for years before turning over the drivers’ seat to just work on it. That simple jovial thought seems to give me vision of a happier afterlife where he’s doing what he loved with drivers —professional or otherwise—and just that makes it a tad easier.

My love and empathy to the Earnhardt family, for each year still brings tears along with smiles and laughter remember who our loved ones were, their character, and the amazing things they did for their love of racing.

May your hearts find peace today.

    Deepest regards,
    Mary Tupper

Just moved to Daytona Beach, Florida and I now fully understand what this legend of a man mean’t to Nascar.

I was never this hardcore Nascar fan but the average African American will recognize most of the names (Famous) from a Nascar reace so the sport is definatly growing by leaps and bounds. R.I.P. sir your death although tragic brought a great deal of publicity to the sport you cherrished and loved so much and educated every american no matter what race about the sport.

    God Bless…
