Dale Earnhardt, Jr to run No 5 in first Hendrick test

Although Casey Mears and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will test with their 2008 teams at Atlanta, they will not drive cars branded with their 2008 numbers. Mears, who will drive the #5 Chevy next season, will run his customary # 25 National Guard/GMAC paint scheme during the two-day session. Earnhardt, who is slated for the #88 Chevy in 2008, will test a #5 car at Atlanta.
To commemorate his first laps with Hendrick Motorsports, Earnhardt will sport a “throwback” #5 All-Star Racing Chevy during next week’s Atlanta test. Earnhardt’s Impala SS will feature a red and white paint scheme identical to the first car campaigned by team owner Rick Hendrick in Cup-level competition.
Then known as “All-Star Racing,” Hendrick Motorsports fielded the car with driver Geoff Bodine in 1984. The #24 and #48 teams of Hendrick Motorsports will not attend next week’s Atlanta test.

Who cares what # they test with ?
Except maybe the model car makers, Sooo that means it’s just a story about $$ with no real substance ?
Why no 24-48 team test ? that’s more interesting.
Do they think they have a lock on this so no testing is needed ?
I wonder why they are testing anyway. R Hendrick hires hundreds to test his cars and bring back the results. He is the only stable to do this. There is no need for the drivers to test a car. I think Jr just wants to drive.

Jr. wants to get a head start driving a Hendricks car ASAP to get a head start on Daytona a test driver cant give them the feel of how diffrent this car will drive compaired to a TEI car, also most of the big teams have test drivers and test teams, it started when NASCAR limited the # of tests the teams get on tracks they race on.
It is strange that the 24 and 48 are not testing, wonder why?
Number 88 ROCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
