Dale Earnhardt, Jr to meet with DEI on Wednesday over contract, ownership in team

Representatives of DEI and Dale Earnhardt Jr. will meet on Wednesday to discuss Dale Jr.’s contract and ownership stake in the team.
Earnhardt Jr., his sister, Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, who serves as his business manager, DEI competition director Richie Gilmore, and DEI’s new president, Max Siegel are expected in the meeting.
Teresa Earnhardt, the owner of DEI who also is Earnhardt Jr.’s stepmother, will not be at the meeting, by design.
Gilmore said the parties wanted to try to keep the emotions to a minimum, and they wanted to keep Teresa Earnhardt and Dale Jr. separate.
Dale Jr.’s contract with DEI expires in 2007, and he said during testing at Daytona that he wanted a greater stake in DEI, the company that his father started. Gilmore says the ownership stake in the team is still the major determining factor in the contract negotiation process for Dale Jr.

Tomorrow may prove to be the ‘day of reckoning’ over this issue. Our sources tell us that Jr and Teresa are no longer on speaking terms…and they might own a team together??
Our bet is if Jr doesn’t get a significant stake in ownership (at least 50% including his siblings) he will be gone and start his own team…driving for Childress is not in the cards for Jr…he wants ownership in a team.
A day of “day of reckoning” indeed. I don’t don’t see Teresa ceding over 50% or more.
I think Junior knows and and is the driving force behind establishment of JR Motorsports.
I absolutely agree Marc. Why would he establish that team otherwise? It will be interesting to see if we hear anything today out of this and if we do, you’ll read it here!
DEI cant lose JR. if they need to i say they overthrow Teresa!
I am very, very interested to hear the result of this meeting. I’d like to see Junior race for Childress (or hendrick) atleast a few seasons, but I’d also like to see him stay at DEI and get what he wants. Considering Theresa’s track record of firing (or pushing out) the drivers Dale Sr. hand picked I am not expecting him to be at DEI in 2007. Especially since I bet every team out there has an offer prepared for Junior. I remember Dale saying before his death that this company was for his kids… Guess Theresa wants the company for her pocket book and to help her ego. Some higher ups from DEI already jumped ship in the past year or so to go with Michael Waltrip Racing. The company will dwindle and fail when Junior is gone. (insert expletives here related to Theresa!!!*%$#*%!!!!!!!!!)
To me this is great news because in my opinion DEI gets better in one area of racing and gets worst in others there not a consistent team like Hendrick so if Junior wants to win a championship i truly believe he has to leave DEI im not saying he will go to RVR it would be a dream come true for race fans but ui don’t think its going to happen yet maybe the last 3years of of his career of something to that sorts so i guess well know by tomorrow
AXEL,You should wright for a magizene you say everything good.
Do you think after all this JR will sign with DEI if he does it was one of the biggest moneymaking articles of news in the history of Nascar. I dont see him signing with DEI again this season maybe later after he has gone on his own for awhile and won a championship. I dont see any championship wins at DEI in the near future they need a shakeup and some changes like Childress racing has done and now is in the hunt to win and win a championship.
