Dale Earnhardt, JrDale Earnhardt Jr. is the third Hendrick driver to earn a pole this season. Now maybe he can be the first to win a race.

Earnhardt, the Hendrick newcomer and the team’s most consistent finisher with four consecutive top 10s, ran a fast lap of 190.907 mph Friday at Texas Motor Speedway to earn the pole for the Samsung 500. It is his first pole in 22 races, since Pocono in August.

“The car handled really good,” Earnhardt said. “The car is as good and as comfortable … It could be a good weekend for us.”

The qualifying run came on the 10th anniversary of Earnhardt’s first NASCAR victory, a Nationwide race at Texas. Earnhardt also got his first Sprint Cup victory at the 11/2-mile high-banked track in 2000.

Starting beside Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevrolet on the front row will be Carl Edwards, who ran a lap of 189.487 in his Ford. It is the first time Edwards, the only driver with two Cup victories this season, has started better than 10th at Texas, where he won the 2005 fall race.

    Have a feeling this race is going to be Junior’s or Stewart’s race by checking the stats.

    Hmm Qualified on Pole but is currently 13th in Happy hour… seems like he has some work to do….

    Cassie, not to be mean, but it sorta is a big whoop, its his first pole for Hendrick Motorsports, and its probably the quickest in a season he’s ever gotten.

    He’ll be just fine its different time of day an race trim now,as for poles I dont put much into it unless they were to start giving some kinda bonus points which I dont know why they dont.

    I like the Bonus point system that ARCA uses for the Re/Max series.

    25 points awarded upon pre-entering and competing.
    Qualifying Points: 1st-15; 2nd-10; 3rd-5
    5 pts. awarded to any official lap leader.
    5 additional pts. awarded to leader of the most laps.
    250 pts. awarded upon entering and competing in each pre-designated 5 race leg of overall schedule.

    Hmm never mind that wasn’t happy hour, that was just the first practice (no practice before qualifying I guess), Happy hour is now.

    Jr haters??? WTF??? what an idiot you are. Take off the blinders at the terrible behavior and charactor of Junior. Junior has always brought this garbage on himself… Additionally, these articles are nothing but a total white-wash, constantly portraying Junior as some innocent darling.

    The truth is… if junior had half-a-brain (which he doesn’t)… he’d be totally embarassed how lousy he’s doing this season.

    He spent the entire season last year telling stories, lies and unbelievable maniputation just to steal a company that didn’t belong to him… then he turned the entire world of fans against and excellent woman who dedicated her entire life to building that company from inception… then the dumb-ass punk spends the entire winter holding press conferences bragging about his belief that he’s THE BEST DRIVER ON THE TRACK… and here we are going into the 7th race of the season and he still hasn’t won a single race yet…

    the points standing right now is so early in the seaon that it means NOTHING yet… show him in 4th place later in September… then it means something - but now now.

    If you look at his finishes in prior years at the same tracks… even the low intelligence level of Jr. Nation CANNOT DENY that the useless punk has done no better this season than he has in previous years WITH DEI AND TERESA OWNED - EQUIPMENT.

    Junior even disgraced himself in last week’s race at Martinsville with such a lousy finish. Look at his prior stats…

    MARTINSVILLE: “JUNIOR THE SUPER-JERK’S” FINAL FINISHES DRIVING DEI EQUIPMENT OWNED BY TERESA…

    2002 = 5th
    2003 = 3rd
    2004 = 3rd
    2006 = 4th
    2007 = 5th

    AND LOW & BEHOLD… THE IDIOT’S finish last week with HENDRICK EQUIPMENT:

    2008 = 6th. (he actually would have finished 7th if Carl Edwards hadn’t run out of gas on the final 1/2 lap of the race)

    So Junior gets the pole today. Big deal. whoopdy-dooo. That pretty much gaurantees the dopey dill-weed will finish 7th or 8th today… if he finishes at all… and meanwhile… he will continue a slow, decline throughout the rest of the season.

    Junior will be lucky if the dubious little crook ever wins another race the rest of his life. He’s destined for a race career about as embarassing as Kyle Petty’s. The harder Junior tries to succeed, the worse he’s gonna do.

    he’s a loser and certainly NOT championship charactor.

    Junior has nothing in common with his father. He’s at the opposite end of the moral spectrum. That’s not hate. Thats just plain TRUTH. Jr. Nation needs to pull their heads out of the butts and get a dose of reality.

    Joe you should be watchin another sport because it takes 43 professional to drive around that track and you sure couldnt be one . and Jr does not want to be like his dad , he is his own man and he has said that since 2001 . and 2 Busch Championships in a row !!! GET A LIFE and stop knocking other drivers.

    Listen, lets chill with the name calling!! Go ahead and list your driver, so others can talk smack about them, until then, back up!

    Thanks! Its nice to have others who think nice of Jr. I guess Joe is afraid to let everyone know who his driver is…….

    While I don’t agree with everything Joe said, most of it was right. Jr Acted like him going to Hendrick was going to make him dominate, but really he is on par where with he has been his entire Cup career.

    But then again take Jeremy Mayfield and put him in Good EQ, Better EQ, Worse EQ and he still has the same performance.

    For some things you can blame the EQ on, Some things you can blame the Crew Chief on (possibly this Jr Situation), and then other things just get blamed on the driver because it is the drivers fault/lack of talent (once again possibly this Jr situation)
