Richard “Slugger” Labbe, who was crew chief of the No. 27 Bill Davis Racing car, has parted ways with the team, a BDR spokesman confirmed Monday.
Labbe has been a crew chief at several race teams, including Dale Earnhardt Inc., MB2 Motorsports/Ginn Racing, Robert Yates Racing and Evernham Motorsports. He was the Daytona 500 winning crew chief in 2003 with driver Michael Waltrip.

He is in good company, a goodly amount of the people in nascar have worked or been associated with Bill Davis and have left…
Maybe Slugger just can’t hit the ball anymore. lol
Too many teams in a short amount of time. Why? Perfectionist? Drunk? Druggie? Control freak? Out of ideas? Abrasive? Who really knows? Another casualty of the NASCAR wars.
Weird story. He was interviewed live on Sirius on Monday morning, from the BDR shop. Slugger sounded fine and didn’t indicate anything unusual was going on. Within the hour, BDR announces that Labbe is leaving the team. Something happened. Don’t worry about Slugger; as long as he wants a job he’ll have one.
One of these High Dollar teams need to crab Slugger up and give him a young driver that he can mold and work with and you will see great results.
Thanks
I think that he would be a good canidate for Hendrick or maybe the fourth vehicle for Childress
