DodgeThe sale of Chrysler to Cerberus could prove interesting to NASCAR. Cerberus owns the car-rental companies National and Alamo, and last year led a consortium that purchased a 51 percent stake in the General Motors Acceptance Corporation, the financing arm of General Motors.

The problem with private equity firms such as Cerberus according to some labor unions and government officials is that the buyouts often include overhauls of companies that consist of massive cuts in jobs or benefits in effect stripping companies of their assets.

The American automobile giants General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler are all fighting big foreign competitors like Toyota. Earlier this year Toyota announced that they had surpassed GM in sales and for the first time in history became the largest seller of cars in the US.

One of the big questions will be the value of NASCAR to the new operation. If the new owners decide that they need their resources to fight GM and Toyota and that the loss from stock car racing outweighs its benefit, the rumor that Dodge is pulling out of the series may come to fruition.

You know why that when a private company buys a car manufacturer they over haul and cut jobs? Because the f’in UAW wants un-godly amounts of money for their workers. If those f’in fools would understand that their wages are to high and thus plants cutting jobs because of it. If you take a pay cut down to about 20-25 bucks an hour you might have a better shot at less lay offs and actual work year round. I also blame the United States Government for not increasing taxes on import cars. If they would and you had a choice between buying a Honda at 60,000 dollars or a Ford/GM/Chrysler at 20-25,000 dollars which would you pick? The UAW did this to themselves.

Maybe if the UAW just got rid of the “job bank” which allows laid off workers to sit and pick there a–’s all day and get paid, we could both compete with the imports and keep Dodge in NASCAR.

    Another good point Jamie

What does this mean for Evernham Motorsports since their primary sponsors are Dodge??This would all be happening next year right?

It means anyone running Dodges will have to switch to one of the other three.

I don’t think this sounds too good for Dodge in NASCAR….

anyone to buy a dodge is a mental retart anyway, the only thing they produce thats any good its there diesels, and that because cummins makes the engines and Allison makes the transmission. All dodge does is try to make something that looks sharp for cheap, who cares if it lasts. Buy a Chevy, or a Ford. Also, I agree; the government needs to tax more on import cars. I think imports should be 5-7 grand more than domestic, that will keep them from producing the cheap shit and if you want to spend that much more then fine, but yeah tax more Mr.Bush

    Anonymous is an idiot.

Buy a Chevy or Dodge, not ford or any imports.
