David Poole of The Charlotte Observer wrote this little gem:
I don’t think ESPN put enough thought into the name of their little trick that supposedly show how the air travels over race cars.
“Draft Track?”
Come on, any local television station can do better than that. Wouldn’t “Super Max-Doppler Vortex HD 5000” at least make it seem like you weren’t just looking at cartoon flames?

draft track sux 5000(thats wat i call it), its animated for crying out loud
why not use “streamline”? It is the actual name for visualization of air-flow, and sounds a lot better than “draft track”. Draft Track is misleading, since it makes people think of both drafting, and race tracks, which don’t exactly relate to what they are trying to describe.
i think the whole thing is stupid. they show it way too much it doesnt teach us anything and they announce the whole race so unemotionally ive fallen asleep durin all the races they covered. word of advice espn: stop makin it seem like yall are readin lines all day. as annoyin as dw an them were at the beginning of the year at least they didnt make it seem like they were announcing a golf tournament.
strech i agree 100% i hate when dw does boggety but i rather have to here that once a race then watch a race on espn it is horrable and yehhh that draft thing my opion on that is that its b.s. do anyone of you really think thats how the air thing is and if you guys think its from a video game it is i havent played it yet but ive seen for the new nascar it has a think like that i mean come on
CARTOON FLAMES! that is the phrase i have been looking for to describe the, uh… um, really helpful ‘tool’.
That was pretty good!!!
Hell, I kinda liked it. Not the name but the animations. Its a billion times better than the “NASCAR Garage brought to you by Home Depot” that Benny (God rest his soul) interrupted coverage with 4 or 5 times a race. It was animated and the animations were just an artists interpretation. I really believe that the draft thing is pretty correct. They should just call it “The Draft.”
ESPN is more about race coverage not pageantry and not sucking off every sponsor under the sun like NBC and Fox. ESPN may not be flawless but they have their head in a better place, I think. I would rather have an announcer just commentating on what’s going on, like ESPN (possibly not knowing very much about racing), and make my own decisions than have some announcer like DW or Larry cramming their propaganda down my throat ever second like they are God’s gift to racing. I also really don’t miss NBC and FOX constantly reminding me of some sweepstakes I’m never going to enter or doing some stupid demoralizing routine for a sponsor that I will never buy a service from. “Que the Duck!” quack.
i cant see any way that, that is rlly true i just think it a whole lot of bull
