Busch trying to be first to do NASCAR triple

Kyle Busch, who leads the Sprint Cup Series standings, will run that series’ events at Pocono Raceway, the Pocono 500 on Sunday afternoon in addition Busch also plans on being at Texas Motor Speedway for Friday night’s Craftsman Truck Series race, the Sam’s Town 400. Then, on Saturday night, he’ll be in the Nationwide Series at Nashville Superspeedway for the Federated Auto Parts 300 presented by Dollar General.
This is unprecedented to say the least. No driver has ever attempted to run in all three NASCAR national series on one weekend at three different tracks.
Due to the intense travel challenges, Busch will take part in only one qualifying session this weekend – at Pocono, in the #18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing. At Nashville, Busch will be in the #32 Toyota for Braun Racing. Tennessee native Will Allen will sub for Busch during practice and qualifying. At Texas, Busch will be in the #51 Toyota for Billy Ballew Motorsports, but qualifying and practice in the truck will be handled by J.R. Norris.
- Mike Wallace to attempt ‘Daytona Triple’ in 2007
- Carl Edwards to do Triple Duty in New Hampshire
- Schumacher to Retire, According to Ecclestone/Lauda
- Bowyer running the triple at Atlanta
- Kvapil likely to run Busch race for ailing Wood

Hopefully he will fall on his face some where and won’t make the cup race.
ah to be young again. i give him a great hand and hopes he wins all 3 races. now that he has his good luck helmet back. he may just do it. good luck wild thing.
rock on with your bad self!!!!
2nd best thing gibbs did last year.after he quit coaching
was to bring in this kid….tony who?
Yawns…who cares.

Yeah, who cares that a guy is going to run 3 races in different parts of the country? That’s nothing all that special, right? If it was your boy Jr doing it, or Tony doing the double again at Indy/Charlotte you’d care.
Did someone say something? Huh, what! oh shrub! His arrogance will catch up with him sooner or later.

Umm… no i wouldnt care if either of them did it i think its stupid myself if i were a car owner i wouldnt allow it and you’re right sam it will why risk getting injured in a truck or nationwide race.
It really cracks me up that everyone is still bashing Kyle, he has shown
that he will race any time, any where, in any vehicle. Earnhardt Jr is
“too busy” to even race at Eldora tomorrow.

Haha good point. While I don’t know that he was too busy to go, it’s odd that he’s not there for a huge charity race with all the proceeds going to Victory Junction Gang that happens to be put on by a friend of his.
At least Kyle is making an effort to run as many of the NNS/CTS races as he can unlike the other Cup drivers that run in those series….
Your right Jeff, JR probably has another bar to open this week….
Regardless of the driver’s personality, Stewart and Robby Gordon
included, you have to respect a driver that will race every chance
they get. More so than die cast and tee shirt peddlers…..
What is really funny is that JR haters are the only ones bringing him in to this debate! If i were a cup car owner, then my driver would not be racing in three different series at one time. What happens if your driver is racing in another series and gets hurt or burned? If could hurt your team! Think about it!
Sam, Drivers racing in multiple series shows their true talent. With the safety
advancements made over the last few years makes your arguement a non issue,
there is more risk in flying to each track than the risk on the track.
And….If you don’t want your driver hurt, he shouldn’t be in a race car…
Sam wrote:
Who says they’re going to get hurt just because they’re running extra races? Ken Schrader runs a million races a year in every possible series he can and you don’t see him getting hurt and missing cup races! Harvick does it all the time and isn’t hurt. RCR and Roush guys run NWS races all the time.
Heck, drivers are probably more likely to get hurt in a car going from the airport to the track than they are actually on the track. With HANS devices, SAFER barriers, and everything else NASCAR has done to improve safety, I wouldn’t worry about it too much if I was an owner and it was my guy. Honestly, if my driver wants to go out and make me more money by beating up on the NWS regulars, why am I going to say no to that?
Jim B.,
Actually what I am talking about is protecting my investment as an owner. I could care less about my driver showcasing his talent in another type of car or track..etc. What i do care about is protecting my team and my sponsor. How much is a sponsor ship now? $20 to $30 million? The time will come when cup drivers will be restricted on what they do away from racing in the cup. It is already happing in other sports and it will happen in NASCAR.

The difference there is in other sports, athletes are going out and shooting up strip clubs, running over meter maids, getting busted for drug possession, etc… Unless I’ve missed some major stories that type of thing isn’t with many NASCAR drivers (unless you count Fike’s smack problem).
On top of that, while NASCAR is physically demanding, you can drive with a busted up arm or foot, etc. In MLB, NFL, and others you’re not going to compete with that kind of injury. It’s apples and oranges. Even Jr was out there racing with all those burns a couple of years ago. Don’t know that a linebacker would be out on the field like that.
And like I said before it’s all about making money. The risk of your driver getting hurt (slim) outweighs the reward of bigger sponsorship dollars, winnings, etc.
I see your point Sam, but I would think the drivers racing in multiple
series would get more exposure, even if the sponsors are different.
I’m sure Kyle’s performance will attract more attention than if he only
ran one series, if he can just keep his mouth shut he will be golden….:)
Are ya’ll forgetting what Joe Gibbs done with Smoke?? Tony had a terrible attitude problem a few years back…. maybe not arrogance but temper problems!! Mr Gibbs got a bridle on those emotions and I predict he will do the same with with “Wild Thing Bush”!!!! He has the desire and ability to be one of the greatest and with Coach Gibbs on the reins he will be!!! And while I’m here… a big hooo-raaa for my local buddy Willie Allen practicing and qualifying the Braun Racing entry for Kyle at Nashville!!!! Maybe Willie will get to showcase his ability in some top notch equipment!!! Go Willie!!!
From an owners stance it may not be the smartest thing to do, but remember the owner also has the choice of saying that a driver can’t race in certain races/series. I remember it was either last year or the year before that JJ Yeley got in trouble because on Pocono weekend he came down to on of the dirt tracks in the area to run his Midget without JGR’s permission.

It is a safety issue dario got injured at talladega missed how many races,Im just saying i wouldnt want my cup driver doing it if i were a owner.
Not much to say after all these comments except,”GO WILD THING GO!!!!”

I think it should happen now, let the NWS drivers race in their own series, and let the Sprint Cup drivers race in theirs, and finally let the Truck Series drivers race in theirs, if a driver wants to race in other series they should go there and get away from the Sprint Series☺☺☺
They shouldn’t be allowed to get a feel of a track before their full time tier day comes!!!
