Shootout to get new name? There’s a chance the annual running of the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona International Speedway could play the name game.
The non-points race has been the season starter for NASCAR’s premiere series since 1979 when it was known as the Busch Clash. Sources tell News 13 that routine negotiations are underway for naming rights to the 2009 race, and it’s not yet certain that Budweiser will return as title sponsor.

I always assumed this would happen when the contract was up and like The Judster said, Coors would come in and take it over.
well if i recall this….Budweiser said they would sponsor it one last year…and worked to their benefit cause Kahne ran well and their old marketing guru Dale Jr won it….but its safe to say what judster said…COORS LIGHT SHOOTOUT…sounds lame but cant do anything about it
well i wondered when they would take beer sponsorship out of racing it was just a matter of time-after all they took winston out of nascar and it was called the winston cup–they keep taking things away from racing pretty soon the fans won’t be watching-all you’ll have is a bunch of stuff shirt preppies and that not fun–keep the name budweiser should remain-they keep doing these things and not thinking ofwhat the fans want

It’s not what the fans do or don’t want - It’s what Budweiser wants to shell out the cash for. They’re obviously of the opinion that the Pole Award and Shootout aren’t getting any returns on their investment, so they’re pulling out.
I’d much rather hear Bud Pole and Bud Shootout than Coors or anything else, but they obviously don’t think that people are buying Bud beer because they see the shootout once a year! Such is life in the high-dollar world of professional sports these days, not just NASCAR.

This just in…the new name will be the Tap The Rockies Shootout with the Silver Bullet Pole Award. This is according to my sources (i.e. me)
if budweiser is pulling out because they think that people aren’t buying budweiser because the bud shootout is once a year i can tell you that more people drink bud beer more than any other beer and i’m a bar tender and we sell more bud than coors or miller or any other alcoholic beverage

It should be the Jim Beam or Jack Daniels Shootout because you need a shot of either to hear that boogity, boogity crap in February.
Sadly, we have to realize that money controls the world, so it controls racing. Coors is just willing to shell out more money than Bud is. Its a shame to see such tradition in the race’s name go away, but the name doesn’t make the race. It could just be called the Shootout and the race would still be great. Race sponsorships don’t make the race
I think that the deal with INBEV has something to do with it. That’s the group from Belgium that’s supposedly taking over A-B. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
