Brian VickersIn the aftermath of the controversial finish Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, Lowe’s Motor Speedway Chairman Bruton Smith has assigned extra security for driver Brian Vickers during this week’s Bank of America 500 activities at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

Monday, the speedway ticket office was inundated with calls from race fans angry about the finish in which Vickers initiated a wreck that took out race leader Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and second-place Jimmie Johnson on the final lap.

“We want to make sure Brian has an uninterrupted weekend here and that he is able focus on his driving duties,” Smith said. “We will offer security escorts in and out of the speedway and anywhere he feels he needs our assistance.”

“We’ve done this in the past as well,” Smith added. “I think the last time was for Rusty (Wallace) when he knocked Darrell (Waltrip) out of the way to win the all-star race back in 1989. We added security at his house and track the week of the Coca-Cola 600.”

So am I to assume that Vickers is getting phyiscal threats against him?

If that’s the case, that’s pretty frinkin’ sad. It’s just a race folks…get a life!

What an asshole.. Jr. FINALLY doing good.. and someone gotta mess with him…..p****.

Vicker fears the stars and bars! For a good reason, as much of JR. as I am I hate to see this.

oh man..yea me must be getting threats..

It’s pretty sad when people don’t pay attention to what actually happened and all they think is Vickers did it on purpose. I’m a fan of Jr, but seriously people… when his father did intentional stuff like that, or even Jr for that matter, they get a standing ovation!! Explain that one to me!!! This was a true accident, Johnson pulled out (no pun intended!) and hit the wall of air & slowed down, not Vickers fault, if Vickers didn’t follow his teammate, he would’ve gotten crap for it… cut him some slack people… if it was anyone else, no one would give a crap!

well, Brian has officially joined the Elite Club of the Bad Boys of Nascar!!!

Brian Vickers’ win was as much deserved as anyone elses. It was an accident with him hitting Jimmie into Jr. People need to grow up, if I hated and threatened every driver that has wrecked Brian Vickers, who happens to be my favorite driver, I’d hate everyone and would probably be in jail….let it go people.

This is what’s annoying me about Earnhardt, Jr. fans. This was a wreck between Brian Vickers and Jimmie Johnson. Junior was just an innocent person in this. Suddenly, you have a million Junior fans wanting to bash in Vicker’s skull! I know, for a fact, if it was anyone else in Dale’s spot, it would have been a completely different situation. And to reiterate what Michelle said, when Dale Sr. or Jr. for that matter, would do the same thing, on purpose, even, they would be commended for it. We don’t even know if this was on purpose.

I think it’s pretty sad that fans are going so far as to threaten him. It was just a freakin’ race. There are worse things in this world than the ending of that race. Wendy, I don’t even know what to say to you. It shows a real lack of maturity to say that Brian’s mother should’ve swallowed him.

Junior and Jimmie know it was an accident and Junior’s let it go, it would be nice to see all the fans do the same.

Come on Jr.fans grow up. if it would have been Jr that wrecked the 1st and 2nd place cars to get the win you would be all cheering. Vickers did not intend to wreck either driver. It was a racing deal. How many times have we seen Dale Sr. wreck someone on the last lap to win a race. And when asked about it he would just say something like “Thats Racing”.

Sometimes I think the Dale Jr’s fans are the biggest cry babies. Like Dot sad. Get A Life.

Don’t worry, I think that Junior fans are still hungover. I mean, how cool is it to throw beer cans all over the race track? What does that tell you about Junior fans?

  12. 12 RC

This is sad. It was just a race and an accident. This just shows how ignorant some race fans are. Junior has the worst fans in Nascar. Its a damn shame. If it was the other way around though we wouldnt even be talkin about any of this.

That’s the truth, When Gordon wrecked at Lowes the fans cheered. When Waltrip and Jr did the twist I cheered just because of the annoying Jr fans, And someone thought it was a crime and yes they did cheered for Gordon wrecking.
