Bobby LabonteUPDATE:

Crew Chief Jeff Meendering: “As for reports that Bobby Labonte has signed with the team, I don’t think that anything is set in stone there. They are getting really close on working everything out. But to say anything is set in stone might have been some speculation. When everything started blowing up with that story, the guys on our team never paid any attention to that. We have really good management here that takes care of that and allows us to go to the track and race. I still feel like Bobby will be here next year, but I know they’re not totally done with it. I think they’re getting close, though.”

Editor’s note:  Set in stone or not, Labonte is staying at Petty.

———————————————————

AutoRacingSport.com sources have confirmed that Sprint Cup Champion Bobby Labonte has signed a contract extension to remain with Petty Enterprises.

Richard Childress Racing announced a 4th Sprint Cup team for the upcoming 2009 season and has secured sponsorship from General Mills which is Labonte’s current sponsor with Petty. Speculation had Labonte following General Mills to RCR’s newly formed team for next year but now that speculation can be put to rest.

WHOOT WHOOT!!!!!! Now all they need to to turn the 45 car program around and a good consistent sponsor, and the Kings men will be set

This is wonderful news!! They are so close to really turning this team around, would have hated to see Bobby leave and lose the momentum.

I didn’t see it, but people are saying that on Race Day Bobby said that he has NOT signed yet, and the only person who would be able to tell you if he signed is himself (which is wrong because I think Kyle/Richard and the Lawyers would know too)

Hmmm interesting! ESPN is also reporting that he is staying too. Guess this opens up the 4th RCR car for Smoke!

Bobby did say that no one would believe were negotiations were at this time so he’s not saying anything. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

    Neither have I.

HOWEVER I think a deal is done, they are just waiting to announce it, lets say maybe this coming Thursday or Friday along with their new sponsor for the 2009 season and maybe some PR shots of the 2009 43 car going around the Lady in Black.

Well it sounds like a good idea at least…. l0l

    CAT & PE in 2009?

  13. 13 ganjadude

I do hope he does stay, It is real sad that a name like petty hasnt won in many years now, labonte could change that sooner or later

  14. 14 Anonymous

The official announcement on Bobby staying and Medallion Financial investing in PE will be announced the week of the all-star race. Sponsorship is not yet secured but the frontrunners are CAT and UPS.

  15. 15 Fisha695 Registered User

If thats true, I’d like to see CAT on the 43 and UPS on the 45 because I think a CAT scheme would look better with Petty Blue then a UPS Scheme would.

  16. 16 ganjadude

I would think that UPS would go with the tried and true labonte however

Yeah but they said they are looking for a Rock Star type driver and I have a feeling that Kyle may step out next year and Chad “I Played Dale Jr” McCumbee will step into that car. And if they can’t get the “Rock Star” type driver thats already in NASCAR might as well get somebody who played him in a movie…. l0l

Man Kenneth you got me all excited I thought the deal was finally announced…. l0l
