Dale Earnhardt, JrDale Earnhardt Jr.’s hopes of making the Chase For The Nextel Cup were dealt a serious blow Sunday with a broken engine in the Centurion Boats at the Glen at Watkins Glen International.

“It’s frustrating to run so well again and then end up here on the trailer with a broken race car,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “It seems like the same scene every week. Yeah, it hurts us in the points but we can make it up. This team has been through a lot and I’ve been through a lot in this business, so we know we can come back when we’re down.”

“We know strange things happen and we could get right back in the points in a flash,’ Earnhardt Jr. said. “I’m not giving up and I know those guys there loading up the race car aren’t going to give up. I’m ready to start the race at Michigan right now just to get back out there and show how good of a team this is.”

    8 go boom.

    8 is 14th place.

I think we need to give Jr one of those little post-it note type arrows so he can point it at like 10,000RPM on the tach… He’s certainly not helping his prospects of making the Chase! I like the guy well enough, so I hate it for him, especially since this is just adding fuel to the Jr Hater fires :(

24 go (OOP’S I DID IT AGINE) 2 years in a row. I guess he just can’t take the pressure.

JR will be in the chase !!!

  4. 4 Vinny

When is JR gonna learn to drive?

  5. 5 RedDevil

Is there seriously something wrong with DEI engines or is Jr. overreving the engine? Truex doesn’t seem to have that problem as much as Jr. does..

    hey vinny! eat one ok.

  7. 7 Axel Foley

Truex blew one after another last year.

  8. 8 Jeff

Axel, I just looked up Truex’s ‘06 stats… He was only out of one race for the reason of “engine”. This year he has blown 2 so far. In ‘05 he ran 7 races and blew a motor in two of them. That’s 2 full-time seasons and 3 motors total.

Compare that to Dale Jr… 4 this year so far and 2 last year. Jr has twice what Martin has in the same time.

Menard blew 2 motors in the 23 races he has made in the last 2 seasons.

Gordon had 2 last year and none this year. Stewart has 1 in that time. Kahne has 3. None at all for Mr Consistency Matt Kenseth. Sure seems like DEI motors like to go boom, specifically Dale Jr’s!

SO WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY JEFF ?? JR IS HARD ON ENGINS OR ARE YOU JUST STATING STATTS…

  10. 10 Jeff

Billy, just stating the facts. I’ll let everyone draw their own conclusions….

If I get time, I’m thinking I’d like to go through more teams and see if what I found holds true across the board. Might be interesting! From the looks of it, DEI (more specifically Dale Jr) has a propensity for nuking motors.

If it’s a DEI thing, maybe their merger with the RCR engine shop will help, since Harvick has blown 1 in that time, Burton has 3, and Bowyer has 1.

Yes, JR is hard on motors.

  12. 12 Merkin Man

Jr. is hard on motors because Jr.’s driving talent is less than stellar. Where does he do well??…restrictor plate tracks where it’s next to impossible to kill the motor. While it is easy to blame DEI for his problems this year, it’s gonna suck for him next year when he has the best equipment and engines in NASCAR and the results are the same.

    …always optimistic…………..

    that’s always a winning attitude!

I think it’s a conspiracy against Dale Jr. His mechanical problems seem to have gotten worse since he decided to leave DEI. The wicked witch of Mooresville is at it again !!!!!

If any of you Jr. haters paid attention to his intervue He admitted that he over rev’ed the motor on a down shift in practice. Very few drivers out there would of admitted that, most would of acted like it was not there fault but as Jr. showed he is a bigger man than most. Btw the motor at indy was from a broken crank ballancer bolt.(not his fault) and one of the others was from the motor turning backwards after he got spun out ( thats the one were he took the bow on the roof) and the one at california was blamed on unleaded gas so this last one is the only one that you can blame on him. Jr. will be much better off with HMS motors there pretty bullit proof.
