NASCAR penalized Bill Davis Racing on Tuesday for allowing an unlicensed driver behind the wheel of Johnny Benson’s truck during a test session last week.
Mike Lichty, a friend of Benson’s, took some laps in Benson’s truck during Thursday’s test at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Lichty wrecked, and NASCAR kicked the team out of the test when it discovered Benson wasn’t behind the wheel.
Benson was fined US$10,000 and docked 50 points, and crew chief Trip Bruce was suspended for two races.
“We agree with the penalties NASCAR has issued to the 23 team and we will deal with them accordingly,” team owner Bill Davis said. “NASCAR has rules and policies in place to keep the drivers and crew members safe and we appreciate their vigilance in this instance.”
Billy Hagerthey will replace Bruce as crew chief.

OMG why would you even consider letting an unlicensed person drive your vehicle??
Having unapproved wing mounts on the COT is worse than this..
If you ask NASCAR.
Such horse***t!
IF somebody did something like that at our local track,
they’d be banned.
