Last week Greg Biffle scored his first top-five finish of the season at Richmond to start a possible turnaround to the dreadful start of his season. This week he grabbed his first victory of the year.

Biffle held off a hard charging Jeff Gordon to score his first victory of the season, and 10th of his career, in Saturday night’s NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Dodge Charger 500 at Darlington Raceway, his second straight win in the event.

Biffle led 170 laps of the 367 lap race and changed his tires 178 times (ok, an exaggeration!). The win lifted him to 14th in the Winston Cup point standings…uh…the Nextel Cup.

But his last pit stop on lap 315, while running in the top five, proved to be the winning move when he ducked in a lap earlier than leaders Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Gordon and was able to take the lead when the final stops cycled around.

Gordon did his best to try and rundown Biffle in the closing laps as the leaders sliced their way through slower traffic, but Biffle was able to keep his Roush racing National Guard Ford in front to take the checkered flag.
