Benny Parsons Skips Michigan Due to Illness

A former NASCAR champion, Parsons, 65, learned he had lung cancer last month.
This was the second local appearance that Parsons missed this week for health-related reasons. On Wednesday, he was scheduled to be honored in Detroit for his 2005 induction into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.
Parsons didn’t attend the actual induction last year because of his father’s death, and was forced to skip a belated ceremony this year because of his lung cancer treatment.
