Jeff BurtonAT&T officials are investigating their options and are unsure what the Richard Childress Racing No. 31 Chevrolet for Jeff Burton will look like this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. NASCAR won a ruling Monday in the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta overturning an injunction that had allowed the AT&T logos to replace the Cingular logos on the car.

“We’re looking at a variety of options - we haven’t really settled on which ones we’ll pursue at this point, both on a legal front and a non-legal front,” AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said Tuesday morning. “One of the things we’re looking at is exactly what the car will look like this weekend. We’re considering our options, and we haven’t reached a decision yet.”

“We continue to feel strongly that we have the right to use our AT&T logo on the No. 31 car driven by Jeff Burton, and we’re going to continue to explore and use all of the options available to us to do so,” Siegel said.

if at&t loses an drops sponsorship then nascar will be no better than bobby ginn. and everybody already hates him. sombody said in the other story that brian france thinks hes a god. i think the sad part is its true. with ratings dropping constantly somnthin needs to be changed. i like wat jimmy spencer saidsunday. nascar never admits making a mistake. they never do and that part of it will be the ultimate demise of nascar. o well wen that happens at least arca will be more competitive. this is stupid. let at&t stay. nascar is doin nothin but bringing more exposure time to at&t not nextel. an nextels service sucks like no other already so it hurts nascar an nextel to be doin this more than it would at&t. then again brian france is to stupid to figure that out on his own.

I agree with Stech. AT&T is having their coverage on forums and

even during pre race shows so Nascar is helpin them out there.

I think being the Series Sponsor is enough, you shouldn’t be able to

block other sponsors out. That’s rediculous. Nextel is just the name

of the series, they don’t OWN Nascar, so they shouldn’t be allowed

to have a say on what sponsors gets placed on the car.

Sponsorship money is sponsorship money, no matter where it comes from or who’s cutting the check. The only thing that matters in NASCAR these days is how thick the lining is in the wallets of the members of the sanctioning body. Nextel is throwing a temper tantrum over the fact that AT&T bought out Cingular to become an even BIGGER risk to their company in sales. Nextel hopes that by shutting the door on AT&T and not allowing them to display their logo on the car, that everyone will magically forget that AT&T is even a competitor. Well, the world isn’t naive enough to fall for that “Out of sight, out of mind” mentality. I really think that this court battle between Nextel and AT&T will hurt NASCAR more in the long run than they are expecting. NASCAR is shutting out many small-time companies that could bring in sponsorship money to smaller teams and help get them going because of exclusive sponsorship contracts. They are cutting out the little man, and keeping the smaller race teams shut out as any kind of contenders for the championship. Every team deserves the chance to be the best that they are capable of being, and many smaller teams need all the sponsorship money they can get their hands on to get up and going. NASCAR needs to stop signing these exclusive sponsorship contracts for the series, and allow ALL sponsors to participate. Allowing all companies to offer sponsorships would bring more money into the sport and into the teams, which would in turn bring about better equipment, better drivers, and better racing. Come on NASCAR, stop thinking about what’s best for your personal bank accounts, and start thinking about what’s best for the future of the sport and it’s faithful followers who are starting to question their dedication to the sport thanks to changing rules, inconsistent calls, outrageous fines, and restrictions on cars that makes it seem more like watching a parade than a race. We need the excitement back, and we need the higher ups that make the decisions week in and week out to share the same love of the sport that its fans possess.

I am being to Hate NA$CAR. thats right they are now all about the money.

Taking it to court to get AT&T off the car.

IF or more likly when AT&T is forced to have the AT&T logo off the car I hope that Jeff wins and that in the post race interview he says this.

“The AT&T car was really good the boys did great work on the AT&T car all race long and did really fast pit stops for the AT&T car, with out them or AT&T me and the AT&T car wouldn’e be in victory lane today, and we got another awesome AT&T car ready for next week and I hope I can put the AT&T car back in victory lane next week to as the Engine in the AT&T car is thebest I have ever had”

if at&t is shut out this weekend people should make t shirts an signs that say free at&t like they did wit the free the 8 thing. nascar cant indefinately suspend the fans an put them on probation. haha mike i hope ure rite. that would be great

can’t att just use their internet or home phone service division as sponsor just like nascar let motorola use their music player be the sponsor on robby gordons car a while back?

  8. 8 Axel Foley

Don’t feel sorry for AT&T. They’re as evil as any corporation. Motorola gets to be a sponsor because they’re not a service provider, they just make devices.

AT&T could just paint the car blue and not put any logos on it during the races. Then whenever they do photo shoots or advertisements throw the logos on. That would be awesome. I can’t imagine that there is something in the contract that would stop it, plus that would be some great publicity. That would really stick it to Sprint and NASCAR.

howbout they put CINGULAR, with the cingular logo, but under it, put “THE NEW AT&T”

it would be the cingular name and logo, and cingular’s catch phrase technically.

(hey, KH, i think there’s a few bugs going on here)

  12. 12 Don

Nascar is getting real petty and whiney , talk about 2 year old children

  13. 13 P.C.in WVA.

Next year it is going to be Sprint Cup. Sprint bought nextel, and they are going
to change the name of the series, {right?}. So why can’t cingular change their
name? What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander!!

  14. 14 Justin

Sprint should put a blue circle on the hood and sides and write “Censored by Greed”…if nextel cant win by putting out a better product , then its thier own fault. I think this is totally un American that you can only win the market by hiding your competitors logos. I laugh everytime I have to loan my $50 Verizon phone to a friend cause thier $300 Nextel wont get service. What a joke.
