Jeff Burton - AT&TUPDATE 2:

AT&T, NASCAR and Sprint apparently have settled the lawsuit involving the primary sponsorship logos on the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing car. With NASCAR approval, the AT&T logos were being put on the car of Jeff Burton on Friday afternoon at Richmond International Raceway. Details of the settlement were not immediately released.

UPDATE:

Autoracing1.com Prediction: if AT&T does somehow beat NASCAR in court (Which we doubt), that car will never get close to smelling Victory Lane again. There is no way that NASCAR will allow an AT&T branded car in the Winner’s Circle under the nose of series sponsor Sprint Nextel. Tech inspection will become a very difficult place for the No.31 we suspect.

[ARS Editor: Do you buy this? Discuss!]

The AT&T-NASCAR-Sprint legal saga is scheduled to continue Sept. 18 in U.S. District Court in Atlanta. Judge Marvin Shoob, who awarded AT&T an injunction May 18 to allow AT&T’s logos on the No. 31 Richard Childress Racing car driven by Jeff Burton, is scheduled to preside over another injunction hearing.

The U.S. Court of Appeals overturned his original injunction Aug. 13, and now AT&T is returning to the district court level in hopes of obtaining another injunction.

AT&T is now asking for the injunction under the legal theory that would conclude that AT&T had reasonable expectations to believe that it could change the logos and that it is an injustice to AT&T that it can’t.

I’m really beginning to think AT&T should call off the lawyers, call RCR and tell them they’ll support Jeff in the chase and just put YOU KNOW WHO on the side of the car (because we all do ) . Then , after ending sponsoring the 31, call Brian and tell him they want to be the new Busch Series sponsor. Yep, you got it, the AT&T Grand National Series.

I kind of wondered about that ?? It seemed to normal and nice for the regular Annoyance to have posted…
As for your idea on ATT I agree 100%. I heard on the radio today that NASCAR was in talks with several Companies in regards to the sponsorship of the Bush races. The one that stuck in my mind was Dunkin Doughnuts..

UGH. When is this gonna end?!?!

  5. 5 Andy

Wait, Dunkin Donuts? Are you joking or was that seriously

    one of them? LMAO.

Lets take this all the way to the Supreme court!!!…Sprint and Nascar are trying to monopolize the racing industry…Without the fan support thier would be no racers…the Winston cup would have never done this!!!…I mean it is hard enough to get sponsers to foot the bill on operations and salaries…without them, nascar would be still be underground…Now they want to block sponsers??? I dont get it!!!…They are blocking at&t for nextel/sprint, tell they get bought out… Or change the name…Give it time and Sprint/Nextel will run out of money to sponser the season!!!…they will sell!!!…then we will be running the Pepsi cup and because of this they will not allow Coke, budweiser,Miller etc..to run sponserships…All because of this court rulling…att&t if you are listening..its time for a grass roots approach…Spend that money on shirts!!! so us fans can wear!!!…lets put Nascar straight!!!.. and allow unlimited sponsership by companies so drivers can florish on talent…!!!

I read somewhere (can’t remember) That NASCAR lowered the price from 30mil to nearly 15mil as it appears the Subway deal went sour. AT&T could get it easily by waving enough in front of France. Time is wasting at this point. BTW, is Dunkin really owned by an American company. Nearly all the shops in our area are manned by foerigners.

I think Yahoo! should look to sponsor it, that way everyone can call ‘em “A Bunch of Yahoo!’s”. No telling what you’d call a Buschwhacker at that stage though… LoL

    Maybe a Googler? :D

  13. 13 twister

i think it will be funny when in the middle of a race or with two to go at&t mess with the sat up link and the screen gos blank just like the Bristol race.rember its maw bell and if maw ain’t happy nobody is happy

  14. 14 JeffCapo

Yay! Now Jeff Burton and the #1 Team can worry about going for the Cup!

  15. 15 8CANDRIVE

Jeff will now have a big bullseye on his car and NASCAR will be watching for every little chance to stick it to him even if they have to make a mistaken call against him. There’ll be no Championship for Jeff as long as he has AT&t as his sponser. and Nextel/Sprint is the series Sponser

  16. 16 JeffCapo

Looks like Jeff will only have AT&T through 2008, then he must find another sponsor.

8CANDRIVE, are you suggesting Nascar munipulates the outcome of the races or has the ability too?
