AJ AllmendingerRed Bull Racing’s driver, former open-wheel racer A. J. Allmendinger, has made great strides since his stock-car debut last season, although his future with the team is still up in the air. In addition, Team Manager Jay Frye has former F1 driver Scott Speed waiting in the wings.

Speed has been nothing short of remarkable this season, winning both Craftsman Truck series and ARCA stock car races. He leads the drivers’ standings in the ARCA series. Speed will make his Sprint Cup debut this fall [at Lowe's Motor Speedway], and all signs point to him running a full Cup season next year. A decision on Allmendinger’s future is expected by week’s end.

AJ’s gonna land on his feet though if he gets dropped by TRB.

He’s shown a lot of improvement since he’s been in stock cars, and I think that he is the kind of driver that is willing to do what it takes to make himself a better driver even if that includes dropping down a series to get experience.

Also I think he is the kind of driver that can attract a sponsor.

AJ is a good guy, he comes out to the fan fare every weekend and talks and answers questions and he is going to be a good driver on the track real soon. this is a shame for this to happen

  3. 3 Fisha695 Registered User

Hey Howie have you heard anything about this rumor?

“AJ will be OUT starting at Charlotte. Scott Speed will test a #82 car next week at Charlotte, but will probably be in the 84 for the race and the races after that. Most likely scenario is AJ going to the 41, and Sorenson going to the 10 early. “

  4. 4 Fisha695 Registered User

Hmmm, I’m hearing that AJ’s last race with TRB this week, Skinner will be in the car until Charlotte, when Speed will take over to finish out the season.

    Are your sources credible?
You know what, this is a DAMN shame..
AJ stuck with them in 2006 and in 2007 when the car wasn’t up to par, and he has shown remarkable improvement in 2008 yet they are going to dump him because he isn’t beating his more experiences and stock car familiar team mate?
I think that is just so so wrong.

Welcome to the world of foreign car makers (TOYOTA) and foreign sponsors (RED BULL)

AJ has stuck with them, but remember these are rumors so we really have no idea what will happen they could throw Speed in a 3rd REDBULL car. They might tak AJ out and put him in a truck or run the nationwide series, and then in 2010 put him in a 3rd redbull car, then they just might dump him all together, and bring on speed. Lets face it Speed has done good i would love to see him in a cup car, feel bad for AJ but this series is getting so cut throat. these teams want instant gratification, they want there teams and drivers to be stars, it doesnt matter who or where your from. Lets face it REDBULL is on everything, they are the top sponsors of alot of top team and people in everything except F1, well until this weekend when the redbull car finally won. So they want to be on top here, sucks for AJ, but thats the way it goes. Look at all the “older drivers” who have gotten passed up for a younger driver, not fair to them but teams want someone good and young. Let face Speed is a former F1 driver which speaks volumes, next he has done good in everything in nascar series he has hopped into, finally he is a younger flashy outspoken person who gets alot of attention.

AJ is going to stay, unless they get Mike Skinner to race the rest of the season for them, because putting Speed in for any part of the rest of the season is a stupid move. Aj is gelling real good from what i heard with his crew chief, and to break that up is a move that coould cost them any good finishes they maybe able to have with AJ in the car.

last i ever heard of Speed coming to Cup was that Red Bull Racing was going to start a thrid Cup team, as long as they could get sponsership for him. but that was earlier in the season, about the time he made his first ARCA race

  9. 9 TheTru7h

    Yea I agree Rowdy
I would love to see Scott Speed in the Cup series leading races and winning especially after the crap he put up with with Scuderia Toro Rosso in F1 (AKA Red Bull).
Allmendinger should go back to open wheel racing where he is treated with respect by teams- because of the immense amount of talent he has. I think its terrible how Red Bull have treated drivers as of late…with Coulthard possibly being removed from his seat for the last 4 races for Vettel to take over this season, for dropping Luizzi and Speed, although both were talented enough drivers driving an inferior car. And now the same train of thought has come to NASAR, where they are showing 0 loyality towards their drivers. I don’t like it

Did you see Steve Hallam head of race operations for Mclaren is leving and going to MWR next year. WHAT, I mean what in the world I wonder what the Fiancial part of his decesion was like and leaving a winning team in F1 and going to a not so winning team in nascar. That just boggles my mind, almost makes me think with another f1 person coming over that MWR maybe thinking way outside the box on how to improve and JPM might not be to far off with a possible merger.

As for redbull I agree, I cant wait to see Speed in a cup car, as for Coulthard, it seems to me he has been screwing up alot the last few weeks seems whenever theres an incident on track seems hes close by. I like coulthard and it does sucks to see him go, and he has been at what 2 cup races this year, maybe he would nah im not even going to say it

I think Steve is going to get real bored real quick…. l0l He’d have been better off in a position with NASCAR to try and develop their future race cars.

Also it bugs the heck out of me how Jayski has that story labeled as “F1 McLaren boss to NASCAR”, the Boss of McLaren F1 is Ron Dennis… l0l

Also has anybody besides me liked the MWR vs Roush hatred and the whole Spygate thing that McLaren was involved in last year, now? I mean lets look at the timeline here…

9/13 McLaren boss departs to the world of NASCAR
9/18 Three engines disappear from a Roush facility
9/19 Ex McLaren boss is rumored to go to MWR

if u feel that AJ isn’t getting respect in the Cup, then what makes u so sure that Speed will get respect.

i’ll tell u this, AJ was the only former open wheel driver that i had respect for when they started coming into Nascar. sure now Juan Pablo has my respect, but that came only after his first win, and Dario had it before he left; but that was after his Nationwide Accident. if AJ leaves then so will my respect for open wheelers.

  15. 15 Fisha695 Registered User

If AJ leaves I think it’ll be by force and not by Choice.

AJ showed last year that he wants to be in NASCAR, and he showed that he is willing to do what it takes to get seat time, even if that is driving one of the Ganassi Nationwide cars.

AJ will land on his feet, and I think he’ll be able to get a sponsor to get a ride and there are teams out there that will take him in a heartbeat if he has a sponsor, DEI, CGRFS in the cup series, and many many teams in the CTS and NNS series.

I’d like to see AJ and Patrick stay around NASCAR for awhile longer, and both of them want too, and it seems like they are willing to put in the time to make NASCAR “work for them”.

  16. 16 Mac5689

    yeah i agree.

but thats the problem with most Cup teams, they put drivers who have sponership in cars, and the driver maynot have what it takes and it takes seats away from good drivers like AJ and Patrick. thats why i’m starting to hate most team owners because even though teams need sponser money to stay running, they over look the fact that some drivers aren’t qulified to run in a Car.

if i was a team owner i would put everything i had behind a driver like AJ and Patrick, because i believe they have what it takes; even if i had no sponsers.

    From Jayski

Allmendinger out of #84….soon? to the #41? Could AJ Allmendinger be just days away from completing a deal to drive the #41 Target-sponsored car for Chip Ganassi? And did Allmendinger drive his final race in the #84 Toyota? (Yahoo Sports), hearing Allmendinger could well be out of the #84 ride after Dover with Mike Skinner running the car at Kansas and Scott Speed running some races in the car the rest of the season.(9-22-2008)

i don’t believe anything from gossip websites, what i believe is what i see with my own eyes.

  19. 19 Fisha695 Registered User

Mac it’s not just gossip websites (btw why are you reading one then?) It was reported on SPEED Tv as well.

  20. 20 TheTru7h

Haha yea Fisha…I read that story on Jayski and I was like
What? Ron Dennis moving to NASCAR.. but yea.
I don’t see why anyone would leave F1 to go to NASCAR, unless their ego is too big and they think everyone is against them–(Montoya.)
And Allmendinger is out officially today from Red Bull. To be replaced by Mike Skinner and eventually Scott Speed. I like how they referred to Mike Skinner as a Red Bull ‘Athlete’ in the press release lol..
well Allmendinger will end up at 41 Ganassi, who will end up merging with MWR forming a 4 car team of 44 55 41 and 42.

hey just because i read this, doesn’t mean that i believe what is said. and i don’t believe a word Speed TV says either.

AJ won’t go to Ganassi because Target would want someone who they can Market and sadly i don’t think AJ would be what they are looking for. and if Ganassi were to merge with MWR then they wouldn’t be a four car team since the 44 and 00 HAVE NO SPONSERS! and since it was reported that the target sponsership, Chips lone sponser from what i heard could surpport two cars (in money, not actully sponering) that could help help one of Mikeys other cars.

but if that does happen i bet Ganassi runs MWR into the ground like he did with Fliex’s 40 car.

  24. 24 Fisha695 Registered User

According to Cal Wells, Ganassi is not merging with MWR, and MWR is nto looking for anybody to merge with. MWR is lookign for a team to be it’s version of Hall of Fame Racing

MWR also has full sponsorship for two cars and 3/4 sponsorship for the 3rd car.

And while Chipper may have ran the 40 into the ground, the 41 (Sabco’s original car) is doing pretty good all things considering. Plus it’s not like Chipper ran the team into the ground, it was well on it’s way there when Chip came in in 2001

  25. 25 TheTru7h

Ganassi has to be merging with someone
I don’t see how the team can continue considering
    its current state.
And how can MWR support a satellite team when its own teams aren’t running that great to begin with?
As much as I dislike Ganassi, I do not want to see the 41 and 42 go the way of the 40, those people who work hard for those teams deserve to have jobs considering what theyve put up with at Ganassi.

  26. 26 TheTru7h

And Allmendinger is quite a marketable driver..
he is young and appealing to a wide audience..

the 40 is Sabco’s origina or at least thats what i remember. maybe the 40 and 41. but i don’t remember the 41 car until Target came on board.

last time i heard was that the 55 had its sponser and the 44 may have arrons and that the 00 had nothing, and that McDowell maybe released.

  28. 28 Mac5689

and i have record that chip brought the team in the middle of 2000. 2001 was when dodge entered the sport and they switch from Chevy to Dodge.

the 41 won’t go anywhere yet, as far as i know Target is staying on board, and the 42 won’t go anywere for a while since its been reported that Targets deal will give chip enough money to run the two teams.
