Jeff GordonJeff Gordon knew Tony Stewart was unhappy with the Goodyear tires at Atlanta Motor Speedway before Sunday’s Sprint Cup race began.

He didn’t know how unhappy until Stewart began bashing the hard compound Goodyear brought to the 1.54-mile track in postrace comments.

“I think he went a little overboard,” Gordon said before Monday’s Goodyear test at newly paved Darlington Raceway. “I talked with Tony a little bit before the race and I could tell he was pretty wound up about it.

“I don’t disagree with him as far as the comfort level in the situation we were in,” Gordon added. “But we have to look at all sides of this and try to give the folks that are doing their jobs the ability and constructive criticism to try to do it better. He kind of made it personal.”

I give Tony credit for calling it like it is and not mincing any words. We need more people like him in this world to be honest with their opinions and call a spade a spade! Go Tony!

Tony is pretty much darned if you do, darned if you dont. He spoke his mind, which he is intitled to, however, by doing so, it made him look like a sore loser or a complainer. Im not a stewart fan by any means, but I can at least see his side. Probably would have been better if he hadn’t said this on air and took it straight to the company or to joe gibbs. Even my husband, who doesnt watch nascar as much as i do, told me that he saw that interview and knew it wasnt going to end well. so we’ll see what happens.

i do think he went a little overboard with every single time he talked to the press on TV all he did was bash Goodyear….granted the tires sucked we notice this..but this is the first time goodyear has made a tire for the COT race at Atlanta…as for all the previous races…so they should be allowed a mulligan…

when we come around to those tracks again and Goodyear messes it up…then let the bashing begin…

i can hear it now..friday tony will be in the nascar hauler getting his arse chewed…

  4. 4 Donny Registered User

Totally. He did make it sound like Goodyear is out to get him, and made his attacks personal against them.

Exactly there is still a lot of things on this car that needs to be figured out for certain tracks, 2008 (at least the first half) is a Learning year for all involved on the Cup level.

i supprt stewart, id rather someone speak their mind then be quiet and just shrug it off. tell them the tires were junk!

the problem is: he’s a constant whiner & bitcher! just like the boy who called wolf—-look at the situation now! yes!! he overdid it, but he doesn’t know ny other way to bitch whine, piss & moan about everything!

the tires were a problem—–he almost made it sound like he was the only driver to have them!

cry cry cry!!! whine whine whine!!! it’s always the world vs Tony Stewart! cry cry cry!

    grow the #@%$ up!!

if jeff or jimmie were to the ones who called goodyear out, everyone would be backing them. but because tony did he is “complaining” BS! he didnt take it overboard, he did nothing but state everything that all these other people won’t because they have no balls. tony should get a raise! and people need to “grow the fuk” up themselves. if you are gonna talk sh!t atleast get some balls and not sign it as guest!

  10. 10 malcolm

I wonder if Jeff was encouraged by Nascar or Goodyear to say that…

  11. 11 Howie motorsports photography

well good ole Jeff isnt any better ,complaining about the inside wall at Las Vegas. you want some cheese with that whine.

  12. 12 tomcat

he told it the way it is,no passing, once you got out front no one could pass you because the tires were to hard, if you watched the race you could see everybody sliding comming out of the corners, i thought they were racing in OHIO because all the ice and snow we had,,try goodyear snow and ice tires next time TONY..

  13. 13 Axel Foley

Tony just pushes things until there is a response. NASCAR and Goodyear would have kept right along feeding us their overly optimistic “we do no wrong” crap if Tony hadn’t kept pushing.

Now NASCAR and Goodyear are sad… Tony’s as unhappy as ever and Gordon is trying to play mediator. What a waste of time this all is… NASCAR and Goodyear need to stop loving the smell of their own farts and keep an open dialogue about the issues.

  14. 14 bubba gump

Let’s , as someone put it, ‘call a spade a spade’ like Tony would do. It’s pretty much agreed that the tire was junk, but Mr. ‘Never Wrong’ Stewart was way overboard. If everyone had the same junk then why not the same ranting? Dale pretty much said the tire sucked, yet he did so sounding like a professional racecar driver who was concerned about performance, rather than a know-it-all, better than, with a big mouth. You say he has balls. Right…like the idiot who gets drunk enough to cuss his boss or wrestle a bear. Sometimes lack of brains is confused for balls. You can’t argue the fact that Tony is a great driver, but I think he’s full of himself. You can push til you get a response, but there’s no guarantee it will be the response you wanted. Goodyear does need to bring a good tire to the tracks, and Nascar needs to hold them accountable. I doubt this will ever happen as Nascar has become all about money, and as long as Goodyear brings the money to the table they’ll bring the tires. I’m waiting for the day Massingill becomes the sponsor and we call it “The Douche Cup”.

Oh, that’s mature, ‘guest’. Why not log in and show your identity? I really do hate people like that. STICK TO THE F***ING TOPIC.

  16. 16 oildealer

Malcolm…..you are right on the money.Gordon probably got the word from Homer Helton to give a politically correct answer.Do we want politics or the straight facts. With Tony you get the facts and that does not sit well with NAPCAR.

  17. 17 Anonymous

Even Jarrett chimed in about the tires and said Tony was right. That makes at 6 drivers that have said something compared to the mopes that did nothing.

  18. 18 Mel

Tony shoots from the hip and he is the only one in Racing today that WILL> I think he is about the only race car driver that has any Ba#$#S to say what needs to be said.

It may hurt the person or people involed and cost them money, but so be it.

I think he is right in what he stated about the tires.

Something is wrong with the tires, as seen in the racing and handling of the race cars.

  19. 19 Lee88-20 Registered User

Gordon is 1 of nascars puppets I expect him to say that.

  20. 20 Shawn

Gordon complains about the inner walls because they are not safe, Tony complains about the tires are not safe, what’s the difference? Do you hear Tony complaining about Jeff about the walls? NO!

    Go Tony!

  21. 21 bj wonder woman

Well in my opinion both Tony and Jeff are right-
The tires were junk — both Tony and Jeff said
there was a problem with the tires. Tony
really got wound up and told everyone how
he felt. I especially liked it when he said he was
going to take Goodyear tires off all of his
vehicles. “so there” Goodyear!! However Tony
did go on and on which could be considered to
be over reactioning. But Tony was just saying
what he felt and thought…. Yeah–go Tony—-

  22. 22 JAG

Both Stewart & Gordon are CRYBABY’S!!!

  23. 23 bj wantin man

Tony does say what he thinks, and I can respect him for that to some degree, but to say he says the ‘FACTS’ is not quite accurate. He is quick to voice his ‘OPINION’, which may or may not be true, either partially or totally. Those boys get paid pretty well for what they do. Tony said you couldn’t pay him enough to run that race again. If that be the case, I expect to see him exit the track and park his car the next time this situation occurs. Do you reckon that’ll happen? I doubt it. He’ll finish the race to the best of his ability and spout his ‘FACTS’ after the race. I mean, if he has the gonads y’all say he does, why would he even say he’d not run that race again.

  24. 24 Kandi

    bj wantin man,

ok. he is TRYING to make goodyear do something about this tire problem. so since when is an opinion right or wrong? and he cant just “park his car” he is under a contract so he cant be like “i dont like this. boo. im sitting out this one guys!” and not to mention he just drives the car. do u know how much goes into getting them cars ready for a race? it wouldnt be fair to the guys who work all week on the car for him to not race it. and if he did that his sponsors would have a cow. not to mention if he did that people would be calling him a cry baby and a pouter and what not. so yea. all in all he is just trying to make good year fix the tire problem. and when they dont listen, there is nothing better than going to the media and getting it out. and he said u couldnt pay him to run it again cuz, u cant pay him to run it again. i thought that was a pretty understandable statement. there is no hidden message in that.

  25. 25 Fisha695 Registered User

I agree with Tony that if I got 2nd place you couldn’t pay me enough to run that race again because I might not get a better finish the next time around, but if I finished 30th I’d race that race again for free in hopes that I could get a better finish…. ;) l0l

But seriously he said what he said and he got; Attention on him, his team, and his sponsors, and he got his point across, and he got called a cry baby whiner.
But if he would have pulled off of the track he would have got; Attention on him, his team, and his sponsors, and he got his point across, and had gotten called a cry baby whiner.

Either way for Tony its a win/win…. or depending if your a fan or not, lose/lose situation…. l0l

  26. 26 Axel Foley

If Tony’s name was Robby Gordon I might think this was a publicity stunt, but I honestly believe with as much attention Tony has on himself already he doesn’t want anymore. You can say what you want, but just listen to Tony’s in-car radio once in a while and you might think just a little differently.

Tony is a fat-_____ cry baby. For all you loud mouth Stewart fans, I’m merely speaking my mind, you know, asserting my opinion. I’ve no doubt you’ll give yours.
