NASCAR settles lawsuit with Mauricia Grant
5 Comments Quote selected text Published December 19th, 2008 in NASCAR NewsThe former official who filed a $225 million racial discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuit against NASCAR is very pleased with her settlement and looking forward to moving on, her attorney said Friday. Maurica Grant reached a confidential settlement with NASCAR following 12 hours of mediation earlier this month in New York. The session was suggested by U.S. District Court Judge Deborah A. Batts after the first court appearance in what was expected to be a yearslong battle between the two sides.
“She’d been out of work a long time. We thought it was in the best interest of our client not to drag this out two to three years,” said Benedict P. Morelli of New York-based Morelli Ratner PC. “She needed closure. She’s a young woman, and when you make the sort of allegations she did, it’s difficult to move forward and get on with your life.”
Settlement terms were confidential, and neither side admitted liability or wrongdoing. “She’s very, very happy with the resolution,” Morelli said. “And I don’t think NASCAR wanted to leave it out there. They wanted to put this behind them, as well.”
What a crock of shizzzzzzz,. This just continues the pusssification of our country. We are getting to the point where the freedom of speech is going to be gone. From the looks of her picture she is the last person in Nascar I would want to sexually harass, and as for the racial discrimination lol im sure that story has been more fabricated then Waltrips carb. It amuses me how every single race out there claims they are being profiles, everyone wants something for free it and none of this started until Nascar went with the diversity campaign. until then the people who were there wanted to be there and we never had an issue, not until we opened the door to diversity. Also the only group of people getting discriminated in this sport is the fans. We are displayed as drunk broke white trash hillbillys, maybe we are and maybe we arent but I dont see anyone crying.
i woulda took this to court. this is stupid. yea i can understand maybe a few ppl makin racist comment bout her an yea that should be addressed. but the rest of this is just stupid. 225 million?? u gotta be kiddin me. if i went out an used the system an sued everybody whos called me a dum cracker my case woulda been thrown out. this is jus bs. there is no way that all this happened. some of it? yea prolly so but no this should not have been settled out of court.. i dont have a problem wit diversity. i think its great an yea we need it but we dont need people suin people beacause theyre mad they got fired. my knowledge indicates she got fired for repeated tardiness an gettin into some kind of fight wit a security guard. i dont care if ure black white or blue, if ure my employee an u pull that crap, yea ima fire you. i dont see any racism in that. the way people are these days i think she ran out of money and didnt feel like gettin another job so she blew the whole racism thing way out of preportion.
It might be a bunch of crap but she got away with it. Btw i have fired people for alot less then she did.
I read about 10 articles on this subject. Of course her lawyers tried to make her the innocent and Nascar the “Boogie Man”. But in a different AP article , they talked to her former boyfriend , and he talked of a less innocent side of her personality.
Her former boyfriend Willie Lowery had this to say when contacted:
“She has made many threats on my life and job. She called my job … up to six times attempting to slander my name and have me fired,” Lowery wrote in his request for protection. “She has been spotted in front of my home on several occasions. She has contacted all of my family and friends attempting to make threats and slander my name. She has also contacted my current girlfriend and I feel she is in jeopardy as well.”
So , maybe Nascar was justified in firing her for her job performance and maybe some other nascar officals should keep their stupid comments to theirself. I guess we’ll never no since it wont be going to court.
Well hell, Rowdy got it (PUSSSIFICATION) I just can’t take much more of the new Nascar.
